:?:My computer is "old" but not stone-age...okay it's close, but anyway, It seems that it is randomly just losing, or "eating my programs. For instance, I was working on a saturday evening, my sunday school lesson for the next day, (no procrastination here!), and Sunday a.m. went to print of the lesson and I had absolutely NO Microsoft Word program, I could not access ANY files, and then on the following tues. my javascript came up missing , and NOW the stupid thing is telling me my local disk drive is over capacity. Now I am a computer challenged 40+ yr old woman...but if I am losing programs, shouldn't I have PLENTY of space on the dang drive?

A virus is just one possibility. The drive itself could just be so old that it's beginning to fail. They don't last forever.

  3. Did you go to my computer and see if under the programs files if there is a directory for MS Office? Or maybe a folder for Word? Are you just missing the Icons off the desktop?

  4. try running Chkdsk, there maybe bad sectors on your hard drive at which point of word or any other programs were in those corrupted sectors that could be the problem

The WHOLE program is just GONE...I however apparently have "notebook" installed or something because all of the files are now there BUT I cannot open them because it says..."cannot find program"...make sense?

Sounds like you are referring to "Notepad", which is the generic text editor that comes with every installation of Windows. If so, it would not properly open a Word Document.

Can you tell us what version of Windows you are using? Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP? We may be able to help with a little more info.

Also, to confirm that MS Word is/is not on your computer, do a file search for a file named: winword.exe Let us know if it is able to find it.

what i would do if there is not much on the pc you would like to save is to reformat. if there is things you could burn them to a disc but find yourself a windows system restore disc and what it will do is completely erase your hard drive and reinstall your operating system as though it was a new pc then all you would have to do is reinstall the drivers and programs you need and your one your way. all together takes about an hour and a half. are you running XP?
