JMO- This idea of spending just as much on a simple 8th grade formal dance as I did on a Senior Prom is----mind blowing. Dress, Shoes, Nails, Pictures, Flowers, Bitburger(oh wait thats for me). I finally had to sit down and talk with my daughter about penny pinching and the fact that we is poor LOLOL
Lol I loved our dances at middle school. But they were just dances not formals.. and my daughter was born to the wrong family. I think she was sposed to be kin to Paris Hilton or the Vanderbilts not me lolol:jester:
when my girls were in 8th grade their "formal" was not formal it was Sunday dress. I do have some size 2/4 prom dresses if someone wants to borrow one.
Thanks for the offer Tangy. But my lovely DD is a 12, We did find her a dress...Got it at Debs for a good price. But now the clique is going to get nails put on tomorrow and then toes done friday. Am taking her to Salon 42 on Friday to get her hair done. She is such a girl, that she has to have everything done for her. I did my own hair, nails etc. love her to death, just needed to vent. Mom(me) hates shopping with a passion. DD could look at shoes and clothes for yearsssssssssssss.
sounds like my youngest. definitely a girlie girl and everything had to be perfect. we did prom 3 years, it was stressful, hectic and fun. enjoy it and cherish it. they grow up too fast.
My 8th graders formal is tom. night. I got her a nice formal dress from Ross for under $25.00, shoes from Cato for $15.00 and a nice short sleeve cover up sweater half jacket thing (to cover her tiny strapped dress) for like $15.00 at Cato. Total cost $55.00 and she'll wear this dress at a formal wedding we will be attending in July. Nails...ummm she can giver herself a mani/pedi and I'll paint them for her, Hair...the same...we will do ourselves.
Wow I need to send her with you next time:jester: Well she has to pay for her own nails and pedi. I paid for the dress and her hair. Her shoes....tee hee were part of a costume she had to have for dance class last year and they look great. Told her she has worn them three times for the program and thats it. She can wear them to the dance.

I feel your pain. We just did the military ball 2 weeks ago and here's the tally: dress - $25 (thank you MNRedsky!) alterations to dress - $75 Shoes, strapless bra - $60 Hair - $40 Corsage - $20 Accessories - $15 Ticket to ball - $25 No money left for mani/pedi cause "mama said so" :lol: All for her to spend 5 hours all dolled up. It was worth it though, she was beautiful.
When my daughter went to her 8th grade formal there were many kids that rented limos so you may have to add that to the total :ack:
My daughter had an eighth grade formal, as well. Seems it started with the class before her. Most schools have a cookout or something but not the one she attended. We borrowed as much as was possible due to the fact that I thought this was stupid. Some boys even had on a tux. Once again, I think it is stupid. Um, Limo...no way! What will they have to look forward to later on in life. If we can be of assistance please let me know. Sherry

yikes! OK, dd is only 5! I guess this is my future. To be honest, I dread it / can't wait for it. Question - was this in the public school system? If so, what schools? thx.
