For a minute there I thought I was the strange Uncle in the basement that no one talked about! Did you ever notice the weird effect that centrifugal force has on hairballs?
I am serious. I have a 3 1/2 year old son, we prefer mornings and are willing to try any fun place! We love marbles, parks, etc... just something to commit us to getting out of the house would be fun. Once we got to know each other, we could even just rotate to different houses for water play or something!! *I also have a 12 year old that may need to tag along during the summer, but if it is short local trips he can stay home*
I will have my 13 yr. old daughter and my 12 yr. old step son with me when I do things, along with my 2 and 3 1/2 yr. old. I want to find some fun things for them to do this summer, not too costly, (especially with gas like it is..ugh!!) :ack:and maybe just a few days per week.:hurray: But I am serious too. I think it would be great to form a play group where we could go to the park (free), maybe do picnic lunches for our kids (when it's not scorching outside) and possibly movies, or something. Just something within budget. *Me and the babies go to the park almost every morning now from 8:30 till 10 or 10:30. It's working wonders on nap time and bedtime!!*
Marbles is downtown Raleigh, near the Governer's Mansion. Here's a website for Kazoom: http://www.carolinapuppets.com/kazoom/index.php They usually get the kids up on the stage. If your child writes a letter to the main puppet (Bartlet), they will read it (or show it if it's a picture) during the show. One big benefit is that every time I've been there, the theater is on the cool side. It's geared for ages 2-7. They usually change the show once a month.
So if we were to start a playgroup, how many want to do it, and how do we go about doing it? Just get a bunch of people's emails (or PMs through here I guess) and set up a time to meet for the first time?
I think we need someone to 'start' the group and sort of get the ball running! We could all pm that person if we are interested and what days/times work best... then that person can email us all with our first outing! I guess we will have to go on when the majority can participate? From there we can see how it goes!! There is an evite system on line we can use to invite people if we get too many people for PM's... this way we can have a calendar and if one of us decides to say head to marble next week we can add it and others can decide to join in. That is just my 2 cents, but I am open to all and any ideas.
I'm interested! My daughter just turned three and I would love to have some things for her to do with kids her age and I would love to get to know some of you too!
I'm interested as well, it would be nice to have other kids to entertain my kids...I don't mind helping get it started as well. I can tell you I'm planning on working Tuesdays & Thursdays this summer, so those days will be out for me. But we can see what everyone wants/needs, and can plan for a month at a time, maybe 1 or 2 things/week? I've never done a group like this before, but think it would be great! So anyway, if anyone is interested, just email me at DMJmom@4042.com.
Bumpin' up! I've only gotten 2 emails so far, and I know there were more people on here that said they were interested...
UPDATE OK - I've gotten 4 or 5 emails so far, a good start! Hoping to get more once everyone is up and about this morning. I am open to any and all ideas, this is OUR playgroup! I have noticed that everyone so far has toddlers, and/or older kids that aren't with them all the time. Cleo, I can't remember how old yours are, but seems like they are young as well? I'm thinking 1 or 2 things a week, and of course not everyone will be able to go to everyone. I won't because I'll be working 2 days, but don't want to limit you all to my schedule. I will be out of town next week, so we won't be able to do our first one until the following week, hope that is ok with everyone? Does anyone have any suggestions for the first place to go? Why not do it at someone's house, that way we can all get to know each other? I can PM the one who offered her backyard (fenced in for peace of mind) and see if we can do it then? How about Wednesday the 18th? I'll get with this person to make sure it's ok with her and get her addresss and a time. (Don't worry, I won't post the address on here!!) One person did say mornings are best due to nap times, and since most of the kids are very young, guess that will work for most of us. Probably the latest things we'll do would be a lunch meet, unless someone has some all-day ideas...I don't at the moment, but I'm still brainstorming. I have set up my PM email to go to my new 4042 email (DMJmom@4042.com) and I'm asking everyone to please use that one so your emails don't get lost in my personal mailbox. Thanks!
Have you personally used one of these evite programs, and if so, what is it? I have a tentative calendar of events based on what people on here have recommended, just waiting to get more responses before I send it out. Do you all prefer I PM you, or send a regular email? If you want a regular email, make sure I have your address!
I have used http://www.evite.com/ it is easy and simple. People can reply directly and the person sending the evite gets emails when people sign up. I would prefer email, I will PM you my address, my PM box is always full.
3 yr old boy I would like to find friends for my 3 year old as well. Unfortunately, I work Mon, Wed and Fri so that may leave me out of the majority of these gatherings but please put me on the list in case anything ever happens on Tues or Thurs. My house is available for gatherings on these days as well. Laura if you and Lance ever want to come play just let me know--- Rachael 919-625-4213
R- We are available any morning, just let us know when is good for you! (and they have a cool play room, so I vote to do a play date there!!!):lol: You know J is welcome to come play here anytime too!!
Rachael - I am scheduling things for T/Th as well, because as I stated earlier, I don't want to limit everyone to my available days...I understand we all have hectic schedules. I just won't be able to go to those gatherings, but that's fine. And if you don't mind, I'll put your house on as a playdate date as well, since you obviously have a cool playroom!! Everyone make sure I have your email, and I'll send an email after lunch with the calendar I've made up.
LJK & Cindy (not sure what your screename is) I do not have regular emails for you, do you prefer I use PMs? Rachael - same with you...sorry, I'm trying to take notes as I'm typing.
Got it, thanks! We've got 7 people signed up so far, plus me. I am going to send out emails to everyone that I have emails for after lunch...I will start a new thread as well, hoping we can get it stickied (I don't know how to do that, anyone else know how?) for just the playgroup, so if there are updates or reminders, we can post them there.
I'm hoping Webbie will sticky this for us. We can post reminders, dates, suggestions, and new members who want to sign up can post on here as well.
