Need to know what will be the options/penalty/fines for speeding on hwy 70 (75 on 55). Coming home from the beach, just didn't pay attention while enjoying the conversation about how wonderful it was to see our grandchildren having a good time at the beach... well..
Need to go to New Bern for the court thing... :(

Depending on how old you are you could tell them you thought the sign for 70 WAS the speed limit?

I don't think I'd try that though, they may take your license for real. :boxing:

If it's been a while since your last ticket I'd suggest just being honest about your "oversight" (Maybe you drove into a new speed zone and you missed the sign?). Usually you can talk briefly with the DA before court starts or the judge when your name is called and perhaps get it reduced to less than 10 miles over the speed limit. (I think this might keep your insurance from going up.)
20 miles over the posted speed limit is a bit much so I wouldn't count on it getting dropped altogether. But if you have a good driving record it'll work in your favor.
This has been my experience...........................................from long ago.

I have had one there and I just picked one of the many lawyers that send me junk in the mail to handle it i think i paid 300 but i cant remember since it has been years ago! also when i went the girl that worked in the lawyers office told me that whoever it was that had wrote me the ticket was one of the toughest troopers that they had and he shows up for ALL his court cases!

    I had a ticket for 69 in a 55. DA reduced it to 60 in a 55. Johnston County

Agreed, same deal here, different county. I paid a lawyer to take care of it for me.

I told the State trooper I was very sorry, He said nothing personal....

I tried to blame on my car for going so smoothly... :(

since this is the very first citation I ever got, is there a plea for pray of judgment?

thanks Harley girl, I will maybe think about it... I did have my new glasses just a couple weeks ago, no excuses there... I did feel really sorry, bad for my own action..

back to lawyers, should I look for one from 40/42 area, or someone in New Bern?

You will need an attorney that practices in Craven County.

Skip attorneys!!! My advise actually came from a state trooper. He told me to get there early and try to meet with the DA to either plead guilty to a lessor speeding charge, driving with improper equipment, or request a prayer for judgement. The DA will give you your best FREE advise of handle the situation. I have done this and it worked every time. Call the courthouse and see if it is their practice to allow people in traffic court to meet with the DA prior to court. Find out who the attorney is ahead of time and if possible settle prior to your court date.

I just went through this. If no one one your insurance policy has had a ticket in 3 yrs you can get a prayer for judgement. You can go against the da and he will reduce it. then you go b4 the judge and you will have to pay court costs of $120. I was also fined $10. So $130 all together. Wake co is very fast so will not take over 30 min. If you have had a ticket in the last 3 yrs I dont know what will happen except u could lose your liscence and have a bigger fine. I hope this helps!!
