Hopefully there are some weekend warriors or mechanical geniuses perusing the forum this morning.

Was mowing the lawn the other day, and the blade lever (as I call it -the one that brings down the blades) had been feeling funny for awhile. Well, I guess it snapped as there was smoke and the tractor drives just fine - but the blades do not work. Pull back the lever and there is no tension, nothing happens. I just want to be sure I am buying the right belt, since it is a drive to any Tractor Supply. Or would Lowe's/Home Depot have these in stock - I thought they had to be special ordered from them. Would this be the PTO belt? The tractor is a Troy-Bilt model LTX-1842.

    Here is your manual:LTX-1842 Manual

It could be 1 or 2 belts.

    The deck belt #754-0498 (print pages 14 & 15)

The PTO drive belt #754-0497 (print pages 12 & 13)

You could also have a pulley problem. Is their a broken belt visible?

I have the manual. :) I am trying to figure out which one I need. There was smoke coming from the upper compartment through the vents where the engine and gas tank are located. I see no belt since it is all enclosed

OK, it's definitely the PTO belt. <Off to Hudson's>

    Thanks Sherry!

Hudson's did a great job with my lawnmower. and they apologized for it having a slight rattle that they couldn't fix. Chuh! like I'm going to notice that. never would have known, if they hadn't told me. I got the impression he felt like he was fixing his own l.m.

Hope all went well. It's just too hot to worry about a mower.

And definitely too hot to use the backup push-mower. Esp since the self-propel belt on that is busted as well. lol
