Chucks Heating & Air is also great, he's helped us out in an emergency with no a/c and on a Memorial Day another time! 989-6865

Must be something going around. I'm making calls today for the same thing. The upstairs unit went out Saturday night. We've been camping out in the living room this weekend. Usually it's good to work from home ... but I work from upstairs & it's HOT. I think I'll be moving some computer equipment if I can't get someone here today :)

I called your house to see if you found anyone and your parents answered. If you find someone - can you shoot me a number. I've made a few calls to see if I could get anyone out today and haven't gotten any answers yet. I'll let you know if I find someone :)

Well, as hot as it is, it puts a strain on your equipment. I know my bonus room, even though our equipment is working fine, is a lot hotter than the rest of the house for several reasons. No shade on that side, the garage is not sheet rocked and insulated (except between the first floor and the bonus room), and no return in that room. The two registers are in the ceiling. I have a fan pulling cool air from the hall into the bonus to try to help out. I may have that modifyed later this year, because that is the room we spend the most time in. In the mean time, I think I am going to be looking for some insulated, light reflecting curtains. The mini-blinds ain't cuttin' it. :?

Thanks for the info!! 4042 folks are GREAT :) Artic Air said they could come out today. It's not like I don't need to sweat a few pounds off ... but this really isn't how I wanted to do it. I don't think I would have made it in the days before AC :)

It could be worse ... I'm up to 89 here now. I can't wait for the AC guy to come. I feel silly for complaining when I know there are folks working outside in this heat all day. I don't know how they do it. I guess I'm just a big sissy.

My AC went out last week. Fortunately (or maybe not) my ex DH was able to fix it.

Something we experience at least once or twice every summer is that the unit actually freezes up because it's working too hard. That is probably NOT the right way to describe it, but here's what we do:

Turn it completely off for a few minutes. Then turn the heat on as high as it goes. Leave the house if you can for a few hours. It sounds awful and it is. After a few hours, turn it off again, and then push the reset button on the outside of the AC unit. On ours, there's a little red button on the bottom close to the ground. Just push it once and then turn it back on. Usually fixes it right up.

Obviously there may be a bigger problem going on, but it has worked so far. Also, make sure the filters are all clean and wash down with as high pressure as you've got the outside of the unit. The slats that go into the fan area get really dirty and need to be cleaned out.

We learned all this from Beasley's after they came out and did these things for us a few times. It was awesome of them to tell us.

May or may not work for any of you, but it has sure saved us some major $.

That makes 2 of us. We did everything we could think of yesterday to help the AC. I put a towel over the curtain on the side of our front door and a sheet over the glass on the back door. Yeah, I know we look like rednecks! But, I don't care . . . when it's over 100 outside I'll do what I have to in order to help the AC unit. I would die if it broke!

LOL - those are good ideas - redneck or not! Last yr we put some vinyl static cling stuff on our 'sun facing' windows to help with heat. Can't remember what its called, but its in the blinds section at Lowes and it comes in different tints. Also using a Roman shade instead of mini-blinds will block more sun too. We don't have any shade trees in our front yard and those front rooms used to BAKE in the summer!
Also - if you have rooms you don't use - close those doors.

We also use Artic Air. They truly try and get out there ASAP!
