POOR FORSTER CAT IN SEARCH FOR A HOME FOREVER!

MAYBE SOME PEOPLE FOLLOWED MY STORY ABOUT MY ABDUCTED CATS... ANYWAY, I DECIDED TO HELP OUT JOHNSTON ANIMAL SHELTER FOR FORSTERING A CAT. THEY ARE COMPLETLY OVERWELMED WITH CATS. SO NOW, I DECIDED TO TRY THIS WAY TO SEE IF I CAN FIND ONE GRATE HOME FOR MISS LUCKY! I CAN NOT KEEP HER BECAUSE I WILL MOVE TO A NEW SMALL HOME AND GOT STILL THE 2 REMAINING AND IN TOP A POOR STRAY.
MISS LUCKY WAS FOUND IN AN ABANDONED HOUSE, WHERE TEENAGERS WHERE USED TO PLAY MUSIC.. A GIRL CALLED THE SHELTER HOME, AND TOLD THEM HER BOYFRIEND OR ONE OF THE BAND WAS ABUSING THE CAT BY THROWING HER AGAINST THE WALL!!

SHE IS EXTREMLY GENTLE, AND ALL SHE WANTS IS AFFECTION, AND FOOD, OF COURSE..
SHE IS BLACK, NOT VERY BIG AND VERY FRIENDLY TO EVERY CAT. SHE STILL WANTS TO GO OUT, BUT SHE WILL BE FINE. PROBLEM IS, BECAUSE SHE IS JUST A FORSTER CAT FOR ME, THAT THE ONE WHO TAKES HER, HAS TO PAY ABOUT $ 100 TO THE SHELTER HOME, BUT ITS INCLUDED STERILISATION AND VACCINATIONS. THATS NOT TOO MUCH, I THINK.

I REALLY WOULD FEEL BAD TO TAKE MISS LUCKY BACK TO THE CAGE.... MAYBE THERE IS SOMEBODY WHO WAS JUST WAITING TO HERE FROM MISS LUCKY'S STORY!

I have a friend looking-- oh wait I just re read your post, they are charging $100 at the Johnston county shelter? Yikes.... nvm, I dont think she will go for that.

the 100 bucks covers shots and fixing, doesn't it? you'd pay more than that if you picked up a totally free, unshot, unfixed cat somewhere and then went to a vet

I agree!! And am a strong advocate for shelter adoptions!!

She is looking for a 'free' unwanted critter. Not that I agree with her philosophy, but she says if she gets one already spayed that is free (And saving it from going to a shelter) she feels better about it. Money is not an issue for her, but for some reason she wants to do it this way.

I am just helping her look. She homeschools her 6 kids and doenst get on the computer too much.

 

Don't take this the wrong way, but, if fostering is a BIG deal. What happens if no one takes the cat? I understand what you are trying to do which I think is GREAT!!!!

I mean you NO offense here, but IF you are FOSTERING this cat for the JOHNSTON COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER, this cat IS THE PROPERTY OF THE SHELTER, NOT YOURS - therefore, Johnston County Animal Services would have to approve of any adoption.

If you are fostering and you can no longer foster, due to moving, allergies, or any other reason - you bring your foster animal back to the shelter and they will place it in ANOTHER FOSTER HOME, until it is adopted.

I have worked with, and set up various foster programs in NC as well as in other states. As a foster parent for a pet, you job is to socialize the pet (housetrain and let it become comfortable), provide it with love and affection, and bring it to adoption events so that it may find itself a forever home.

I would STRONGLY SUGGEST you telephone your shelter contact person and inform them ASAP that you are getting ready to move, so that they have a little bit of time to locate another foster home for the kitty so that it doesn't have to be housed at the shelter when you have to move.

Like I said, I don't mean to offend you and you did a kind thing to take this kitty into your home - but your obligation to her, is to let the shelter know what's going on so they can make arrangements.

Zookeeper... please dont assume things.... they KNOW EVERYTING about me moving, ect..
they got way too many cats at the moment, and got not enought foster homes for all of them.. my foster cat will go back to Petsmart into a small kennel, for whoever knows.. some are there in this little kennel for a long time, just to get a chance to get adopted... so, all i wanted is to try to find somebody for Miss Lucky, because I hoped she doesnt has to go back in the kennel...I know, the Shelter home has to aprove the adoption first.. but, if somebody is intrested... they can contact them and and fill out the forms and take her...easy.. they got so so so many cats at the moment.. its unbeleivable..
and, yes its not too much, to pay about a 100 bucks for her...

Goldie, Forgive me if I take the opportunity to ASSUME that Miss Lucky would have a much better chance of having prospective adopters view her in Petsmart, than hanging out at your house.

Foster homes are perfect for very young kittens who are still too young to adopt out; pregnant, or nursing mother cats; and any cats who may have upper respiratory infections, and similar communicable health concerns, which are not permitted to be in those Petsmart kennels until they are no longer contagious.

Every day people walk past those kennels in Petsmarts all over the US - Petsmart started allowing non-profit organizations to house and hold adoption events in 1994 and have helped place over 2 MILLION previously homeless animals since that time.

If your moving, means that Miss Lucky will go to a kennel in Petsmart, I honestly believe she will find herself a forever home quickly.

 

could you guys possibly be any snippier? jees. the girl is just trying to find the cat a home.....so she doesn't spell great and might not know the perfect procedure....if you knew all she has been through and she is still finding in her heart to help out some homeless cats.:roll::roll::roll:

Zoo, you know I luv ya! But your being a little harsh with this girl in my opinion. 8) I think her heart is in the right place. The important thing is finding the kitty a new home.

 

If I'm one of the 'guys' in your comment - I don't think I'm perfect - Hell, I'm far from it.

I just think that goldie is misinformed and allowing herself to stress out thinking that this kitty that she is fostering will somehow suffer as a result of her moving.

I can't begin to tell you how many people have their heart-strings tugged when they hear a story of an animal - with a time deadline, in need when they are not ready to adopt, but do so anyway in hopes to do something beneficial for that animal and then realize they may have taken on more than they could, thus leaving that animal, once again, looking for a home.

This kitty is NOT on any list to be put down. Going to another foster home, or to a kennel at Petsmart will not harm this cat.

Someone uniting with an animal because of a connection they feel when they meet that pet and sharing their life, and home with it forever is usually much more successful for all concerned, than someone just trying to 'fix' a situation. I liken it to humans dating, rather than going the prearranged marriage route - while not always a match made in Heaven, the odds for happiness have to increase at least fifty fold.

A forever home is the outcome that will make Miss Lucky - Lucky.

Yeah, I got up on the wrong freaking side of the crate this morning -

I still feel that goldie is doing the Chicken Little call, when it's not the end of the world for this cat.
