i agree with you about people getting happy about the $$ being borrowed from china but that decision was already made for us so why shouldn't we get our share? i end in 54 and hubby in 77 we haven't received anything, when should expect ours?
To quote Gomer Pyle- surprise surprise surprise!!! We got a $900 "stimulance" check this week. Our accountant told us we would not be getting anything because our adjusted gross income was too low- guess he was wrong. Mrs Rig told me she was stimulated by the check......... hehehehehehe
"so why shouldn't we get our share?" ...... That's right, join the club even if you know it's the wrong choice. I drop back to a bumper sticker I made back in 1989. It said, “We share air and you’re wasting perfectly good oxygen." The only 'real' affect those checks will make depends on what we do with it. If we pay down debt with it, or, spend it strictly on U.S. made goods and services, we win. Spend it on foreign products or services and we loose. As usual, the American flock is choosing poorly again. The current tally shows retail sales winning the major portion of the checks distributed so far. The Commerce Department reported Thursday, "Retail sales soared 1 percent last month, the biggest increase since November." It's going to beat Christmas spending records. The largest retailer in the world stocks more than 40% of foreign made products, and 14% with foreign assembly services or parts. All the competition follow suit to some extent. You do the math. "America has lost some 2.5 million manufacturing jobs since 2000, and "Made in China" now rings up a $250 billion trade deficit each year." www.marketwatch.com Wow, thanks folks. All that money you just spent did little to nothing in reviving our economy. We need a large positive impact to the current economy. Not more idiotic spending. And stimulus checks fit in that category perfectly. Your trusting the unknowing to knowingly make the right decision. Who thought up that plan? A rebate stimulus program would have worked, and worked well, if the government issued credit cards that could only be used with approved methods of spending. A lot like welfare checks but not exactly. With politicians and big business in bed, this won't happen. Too many foreign trade ties.
hey ddrdan, please don't twist my words. i didn't make the decision to go forward and get a loan from china to help boost our economy. doesn't and shouldn't that whole concept make everyone think twice? our country, the richest country needs to borrow $$ from china to boost our economy? when we really are already boosting theirs not once by buying their product without a stimulouse check, but a second time with their own $$$ from the stimulouse check sooo just to clarify my end .... i've been working since i am 15 and have NEVER been on welfare!!!! NOR do I plan on ever plan to be on welfare!!! i completly understand the value and worth of all things involved in my life especially my purchases because no one has ever given me anything for free. i also expect to pay back my monetary " stimulouse check " times 5 because that's what our gonverment does. it is somewhat exciting just the thought of someone even thinking of giving me money but why should i decline "my share" i am going to pay for it somehow and the decision was not even mine? so what are you doing with your check?
And when your representatives were deciding on implementation you didn't make a decision then either. Thousands of people just like you were thinking about what they were going to do with the ill gotten gains before it even became an actuality. Instead of looking into the program you just sat there and let others make a bad decision. Your neglect to review and respond to your representatives in the implementation process leaves you a wide range of excuses to nullify your involvement. But I’m not saying you planed that because you’re not that smart. We are not the richest country. Instead of watching that reality TV, try opening a book occasionally. I meant to say "food stamps" and not welfare. But I'm amazed that you read that whole paragraph and got that thought from it? You'll have to explain this one for me. Is that an IRS rule? Where did I say you should decline you share? I don't have any credit card or luxury debt, we don’t do stupid. So it will be going towards my kids’ college tuition this fall.
OK, I got it now. As long as you spend it on a "noble" cause, it's OK to spend it. I'm going to spend mine on a car repair. Does that pass muster?
A "noble" cause would be donating it to me:lol: You guys are missing the point. It doesn't have to be noble, nor do you need to decline it. It just needs to stay in America to do any good at all. So don't go buy that giant plasma TV made in China with it. Use it in a small local retail store with American made products, use it at a restaurant, and, yes, have your car fixed with it. Just stay away from the places that dominate our purchases with foreign goods.
