OK, I have some knee problems, and have to have an MRI done. Problem is I'm scared to death of regular MRI machines. The first time I went in one my thought was 'so this is what it's like to be buried alive'. I did get a valium for the next one, which helped.

But, I would certainly think with all the medical facilities around, there has to be an open MRI somewhere! Help!

    Thx.

Not sure, but you could call them and see. The rex place where White Oak shopping center is, in the back behind Target.

    Open MRI

I work at Raleigh Radiology Cedarhurst and it does have an open MRI. We schedule clients from 8am -until finished at night M-S and some Sundays. Call 877-5400 to set up an appt.

It is an OPEN/LARGE BORE not an open MRI (there is a difference to people really afraid :) ) at Raleigh Rad/Cedarhurst. Greenville and Wilson have open MRI's but a lot of doctors do not like them because the magnet is not as strong.... and the open bore still has stronger magnents.

Rex and other Hospitals will do it with MAC sedation (completely knocked out) the other places like Wake Rad, Raleigh Rad and so on can do it with Valium. Valium may work for you since it is a knee because you will go feet first and only to your hips. Raleigh Rad has a place in Clayton and Wake Rad has a place in Garner with a larger Bore also and I know Garner does Valium. 8)

Had an MRI done on my knee a year or so ago, Went to the place at White Oak which had a Mobile MRI unit set-up. They actually stopped the MRI about half way through due to the fact that I had fallen asleep and the buzzer thing fell out of my hand and hit the floor.

Techs came in a hurry and realized I was asleep and had to start over.

BTW.....when getting your knee done the slide you in feet first. so it's not really enclosing as if you were having a normal MRI done.

Oh yes I did forget how nice they are! LOL Most wear really cute scrubs too! LOL
Bring a driver if you have valium or you can not get it done, oh and do not lie like some patients do and say they have a driver in the car and they can not come in but you will take the valium form to the car for them to sign. Because that will not work! LOL Then when told no, do not curse, scream, talk about how you are going to sue everyone and have an anxiety attack oh and then be out on bail for trying to have your daughter in law killed. :?
