But you all are way smarter AND way more fun. I have only cooked on gas grills. How does one prep/light/cook on charcoal?
I am the gas grill queen in my house.. I can't help ya with charcoal! Does it have an igniter button... I'd still have to be ducked and ready to run when I press the button...it skeers me!
<<Rubs hands with glee>> Are you cooking with real lump charcoal or briquettes? I can school you on the real stuff, but I don't use briquettes, don't like the taste.
You run to Lowes Foods or Food Lion and pick up those little instant one time use charcoal grills for a couple of dollars, put a match in it and cook on top it then throw it all away:lol:
If its the self lighting kind, then just light it and wait for it to turn white. Once it turns white, its ready to put the food on. If its not self lighting then you need lighter fluid. To properly use lighter fluid make sure that all your charcoal is in a pile and not scattered around the grill. Pour lighter fluid over the entire pile, making sure that each piece of charcoal has fluid on it. Use a piece of newspaper and light it.
A grill at a park. I just don't know how to use charcoal. Now I do, thanks guys! So, how does the temperature vary from my handy dandy knobs on my gas grill?
For lighting the grill, you could also use one of those long lighters (I like to call them flamethrowers) and light in different spots in the pile of charcoal. I taught my neighbor how to use her charcoal grill after our last hurricane. She then told me to never tell her husband that she knows how to use the grill and that I can cook on the grill better than he can.
http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm Here is a link to how to use lump charcoal. Despite the name, it's a family and work friendly site. We have one of the "Big Green Eggs" he mentions and I will NEVER cook on a gas grill again, in fact, gave ours away.
Thanks kdc, maybe there is a video or something. I don't think reruns of America's Funniest Home Videos would be very helpful.
Wanna see a quick way to remove your arm hairs and eyebrows? http://www.nakedwhiz.com/flash.htm Go to the bottom of the page, there is a video on "flashback" which has happened to us once. Scared the ^&*% out of us! LOL!
Probably of absolutely no help here but - I start my Charcoal grill with a propane gas tank! - Seriously But every now and then when I run out of propane I resort to charcoal lighter fluid - If you go this route my advice is to use a fireplace butane lighter or one of those really long matchsticks, at least if you value your eyebrows. Although I do not like it you probably should go with the Kingsford charcoal that has the fluid infused. P.S. if you can get your hands on some old hickory, or in desperation mesquite, soak it for a couple of hours in water than put on hot coals.
