See, I even "know" better than not to wear it. My seatbelt saved me from what could have been a fairly serious injury when I was 17 and rolled my little car on it's side into a concrete culvert. I probably would have been thrown through the windshield had I not been wearing it at the time. As it was, I just was bruised up, from the seatbelt. While I agree that we are all adults and should be able to decide for ourselves, you just never know. I actually thought of this thread on my way to work this morning and put mine on.

My wife rolled hers multiple times and landed upside down a number of years ago and law enforcement said the seat-belt probably saved her life (kept her in the truck cab even though the door opened and kept her from flying around in the cab and possibly snapping her neck).

Note removing her from the upside down position was not an issue, they do it all the time.

I'm sure they do, but I'm not so sure in that very moment that I would have waited for them to get there. I probably would have undone it myself before I had a full grasp of my upside down surroundings.

My ex was killed in a 1 car rollover accident, partially ejected from the automobile. Broke his neck. No seatbelt, not even going very fast on a back dirt road said the trooper - maybe 35 mph?

We always wear our seatbelts especially since I drive a Jeep Wrangler...to easy to get thrown out if the top is down.

So sorry to hear that Cleo but it is the same thing that happened to our friend just a few weeks ago, looking at the pictures, if he had been wearing the seatbelt and not been thrown from the vehicle, he would still be with us today.

i am adamant about wearing seatbelts but i guess after working claims for 8 years and seeing how many fatalities were due to not wearing seatbelts, especially among teenagers and 20somethings, it kinda gives you a different perspective .

This was my son's bio-dad, it just happened last June. A preventable shame. His mother is of course, still tore up a year later. He was her baby.

i try to remember to wear my seatbelt, especially since i got a ticket in durham for it once. (I waved at the cop as i slid over to be as far from him as possible because he had somebody else pulled over... next thing i know he was chasing me down.) i catch myself without it pretty often, but i always put it right on when i do.
