Yep - the kids these days are 'smarter than the average bear'..... If there's a will, they will find a way. :?

Possible...but I doubt it happened. The computer in the Johnston Co School system is so slow its hard enough to get on 40/42 discussion board!!

there are ways to see porn, even at the Elementary school. One of mine did. Yep, thats right, my 11 year old saw full on boobies because one of his classmates hacked into a site....they confiscated all 4 computers out of his class and last I heard they were searching for the culprit....

so it can be done....yes indeed.

Coming from someone with over 5,000 posts I believe it!!! Its those one hit wonders who come on complaining that cause me to doubt!

I agree. I was mortified when my son told me. I asked him if they saw the 'down-low' parts too, uncovered....thankfully not. It's all I can do not to blast on this topic, but I will practice restraint.

OK, I tried to resist getting into this fray.

I think the OP should reach around, place both hands securely on the stick stuck in their rectal cavity and try to pull it out. If unsuccessful, consider a tree surgeon or colorectal surgeon with a chain saw.

I call BS on the porn thing. And, Kellbell, I don't quite equivocate full boobs with porn..:).

As for wanting a teacher whose personal conduct away from school related events is perfect, I think the OP need to look into a church school.

Lord knows that I want to cuss out some of the cute little monsters you foist upon the public school system. Some of these kids aren't fit for human society. Most I enjoy. The few whom I don't are so disruptive and ill behaved that I won't teach any more, and C6 is looking towards retirement. Figure that over 20 years, we kind of expected kids to not become worse and worse each year. That hasn't been the case.

I agree that 95% of 7th graders at large have heard and probably as many have said the words that OP finds so objectionable.

You folks have met me and my better half. We enjoy a vibrant life. Should I give up a glass of wine at dinner just because your kids might see me drinking it. Consider the venue also.

Does that mean that your kids would be horribly altered mentally and socially if they saw a teacher coming out of Victoria's Secret...or AE in Clayton.

Parents..you should, and must be the role model for your children. While they are exposed to teachers most of the day, a parents influence begins before and after that time, and continues well into the next.

Kids are in school, by law 180 days. That means they're out of school longer. Do the math.
    and, parents, do your job.

Santa, believe me, I tried. Honest, I really tried to avoid this one.

Teachers are required to complete approximately 150 hours of continuing education every 5 years. 165 hours got me my bachelor's, so they DO have to keep learning.
I'm staying out of the rest of it :)

Excuse me but I am just surprised at some of this. I know for a fact that they monitor, block and screen on computer usage. I also know that for a while the kids could not even get to "Google". In high school some know how to get around the system but guess what...they are monitored!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Live around and have loads of friends who are teachers. On the weekend they drink beer, go to parties, dance and yes folks they might even cuss. Now, while I am good and ticked let me say something about this. I think we can agree that some words are considered cuss words by all but some other words may be considered a cuss word (around their child) while others may not think the same. Hell, for a long time I would not say Fart around my young child. Made up a name for it as, in my mind, it was abrasive. Others did and still do not feel the same way about that word or others. That is the power of being the parent and the damned First Amendment.

Instead of starting this maybe teachers and administrators should be asked about the issues of concern regarding a certain teacher, computer time, words and behavior after all the hours they put in for our children. After that has been done please let us know what happened and how you feel.

    Unbelievable,
    Sherry

    Ken,

You are absolutely correct that I slid over the racist remark and shame on me for not bringing that into the conversation. I think that I would like to know exactly what that remark was. You see, I commented on the cuss words and in my thick ole' brain I wonder what was said. I do not want now nor in the future someone who is a racist teaching my daughter, but would like to know exactly what was said.

Teaching my daughter to stick her head in the sand is ludicrous and if you see it that way so be it. I value your opinion but I just cannot wait for yours to grow up. You and your wife will be wonderful parents but the world outside, as you know, is not always a rainbow that we can fix.

Nobody has to tell me how smart this generation is. Hey, my daughter was able to go around the system and download what search engine she wanted to use, how she wanted to get to the internet, erase her history immediately, etc. etc. etc. But, a call was placed to me from someone working in the system who stated that the software monitoring picked up what had occurred and that I needed to explain to my daughter (who can push anything right to the edge) that the rules are around for a reason and if I even dream or think she is trying to get around them she will be reporting to dear ole' mama! I never told her about the phone call because my daughter had already told me what she did.

Racism, no! Porno, no! Freedom of speech and being allowed a life out of school, yes!

They are monitoring those computers closer than people think and I do think that over the summer they are upgrading some things.

It is all just my opinion on the original post. Don't want to bash that person but I just am amazed at some of the statements.

I don't know about anyone else, but I personally wouldn't want a doctor, lawyer, bartender, financial planner, beautician, realtor, dentist, or anyone else I deal with yelling racist, rude remarks either. This isn't appropriate for anyone. However, there are good and bad in every profession. Once again, let's not lump together all teachers, just put her in the pile with the other bad seeds in the profession.

I too am staying out of the rest of this fight. :boxing:

    Before passing judgment
on the "Racist" remarks I would like some context and what was said, it sounds like the OP had an axe to grind and tossed this little tidbit in for fun.

Example was this a black teacher talking to other friends using the "N" word?

These "facts" are alleged, not proven. And, depending on the perspective of the person uttering the words and that of a person hearing them, it may be racist or not. We have all heard members of one group refer to someone within that group with a term that members outside the group apparently cannot use, without being called a racist for using it. I maintain that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Kind of like the "those who live in glass houses" thing. If you tell an off color joke, I don’t think you have a right to complain when someone tells one about your group. Mel Brooks has it right. There are no sacred cows in is humor. Any and all get hit.

Dare I say that Blazing Saddles would be as funny if nice words were substituted? No way! If you’re going to censor a rich expressive language so that none could possibly take offense, then you've watered down the language so there's no point in attempting to express something.

I have used practically every epithet I know of. I am not bragging about it. To pretend that those words never passed my lips is hypocritical. Do I use them now? Rarely, but yes. And, in context of the situation in which I find myself.

As for what happens if teachers don't fulfill the Continuing Education requirement, I am unsure. A fully licensed teacher would have the license restricted, and quite possibly placed in a probationary license until the CEU deficit is removed. Course content must relate to the curriculum that is taught. SO, a MSF course wouldn't count, unless perhaps the teacher is a driver's ed teacher- and that may be stretching it. C6 has scheduled hers for the summer (you know, the time when teachers have nothing to do) for reading, AIG, teaching methods, computer based instruction for her class, etc. None of them appeared "fluffy" to me.

Exactly. To me it still comes down to if the teacher's opinions/actions are not obvious in the school setting, then so what if she makes racist comments, drinks beer, gets drunk, etc on her off time?

Guess that's just the libertarian in me.

THe OP was probably just trying to start something ....again.
Racist remarl may have been uncalled for but I am not the judge and jury - I leave that to a higher power. the teacher didn't do it at school so what's the big deal?

AS far as the proxy - my Kiddo can rattle off at least ten site that can be used to beat the WJS systems firewalls. Heck she even offered them to me to beat the server I have at work.. ahhh...no....I like my job.

Again, I may not personally agree with how a teacher spends his/her off time, but as long as it's not illegal, doesn't involve minors, he/she isn't doing it IN CLASS, and he/she isn't dancing topless on the tabletops at school, it's none of my business.

I would hope that all of us would maintain some decorum & dignity in public, but alas, that is not the case. Threads on here abound to the contrary.
