I have a family member thinking of moving into Summerset Place in Clayton. Does anyone live there, anything good or bad about it? Airplane noise a problem? Also they have kids, can anyone comment on Polenta Elementary school?

    Thanks!

I live there and I love it. My son went to Polenta and it is a good school. There were a couple of problems but they are gone now. Planes are fine once in a while the military flies over head but it isn't very often. Hopes this helps.

I think we lived there. If it on Summerset Drive with a Clayton address then we did live there. They had 2 Summerset subdivisions in the area. One off Indian Camp and one off Polenta road. We lived in the one off Indian Camp.

We lived there for 4 years. It was getting better around the time we moved. Our tires and rims were stolen off a car in the middle of the night (next to my kids windows). Because of where we lived we had 4 wheelers, horses and anyone who could walk going thru our yard to get to the other side of the subdivision.

Lots of kids. Lots of rental property in that area. Dont know about the school as we did not use it.

We did get low flying military airplanes. Usually between 4-6 pm. I did not mind as I figured they were keeping the skys clear. The flew almost daily (minus weekends).

    Good luck!

I don't know anything about the subdivision, but my son goes to Polenta Elementary. I'm a volunteer there and it's a good school.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. Does anyone know if they are building a new high school over near Polenta as well?

The next new HS will be over at Polenta rd and Indian camp rd, slated to open 2010 (I think). So not too far from Polenta elem I suppose.

My2Monkeys, I think you are talking about the street Summerset Drive, That is in South Plantation. I think what Mandmdad is talking about is the Subdivision Summerset Place that is off of Steel Bridge Road. Yes, it is a very nice subdivision. The houses are nice. I know some people that live in there and they love it. South Plantation is A hugh subdivision with starter homes and lots of kids that have time on their hands sometimes. But I think that will be like that no matter where you live. Good luck with the house hunting.

Do not know about the subdivision but my daughter attended Polenta for kindergarten. We loved the school and the principal and her assistants. At that time Ms. Nettles was the principal but we loved Ms. Johnson, who was an assistant and is now the new principal. On the last day of school Ms. Johnson escorted the buses out on her Harley. The kids thought that was the coolest thing. We moved and had to change schools.

This is true, it is South Plantation. Every other word of Robbie's is true too, even the ones between the lines.

We went out and looked at Sommerset Place off of Steel Bridge yesterday evening and it looks like it is going to be a HUGE subdivision. It seemed nice and quiet. We liked the fact that the homes weren't right on top of each other and the garages actually seemed big enough to put two cars into with hitting each other. The only problem we saw was that it was too far away from everything. I work in RTP so that would have added another 15 minutes to my already 50 mins to 1 hour to work. With gas at $4 a gallon living that far away from even the grocery store was not what we wanted. It was too bad because we really liked a couple of houses out there.

Yes, we are looking out there too and wondered where to go locally for shopping without driving a long distance and how the commute to everywhere would be. We are moving from Asheboro.

My husband and I were talking about that as were leaving there the other night. You are basically about equal distance between three Foodlions...40/42, Clayton on 70 (Burger King and Pizza Hut) and Smithfield at 70 & 210. Any of the three are a good distance away. As for any other kind of shopping or food again you have about the same things everywhere. You are looking at least 15 to 20 mins just to get to one of them.

You can take some back roads and get to the new 70 bypass off of Ranch Rd. but it would still add too much time to my drive to and from work.

It is really too bad b/c we really like that subdivision.

If you love the house I don't know if I would knock it off the list for only that reason. The way they build things around here you may just have a grocery store across the street in 5 years!!! 8)

I work in RTP and to get to 40 from there is just too much. We are about 2 miles from 40 now and I am liking it!!

I could deal with the grocery store being so far away for a few years, but I already get up at 5am to be at work between 7:30 and 8.

LOL, it's so funny to hear people not wanting to live out in the middle of no where. I grew up in the middle of no where and wouldn't have it any other way. The closest country gas station was 5 miles and the closest grocery store a good 20-25 minute drive. I remember when I was in HS and started working PT the jobs were a minimum of a 30 minute drive. How I WISH Clayton was still like that today. I wouldn't complain one bit about any of it. Unfortunately, it's not, but I'd sure pay a pretty penny if it were. I don't mind the drive to RTP from the Clayton/Cleveland area, not at all. I LOVE my house, my neighborhood, and my community. I only wish it weren't getting so overcrowded.

Sadly, this is reflective of what i heard on the news the other day about how gas prices are going to affect our home's resale value. They were predicting that the bedroom communities of the cities value would fall dramatically as more and more people opt to move closer to the city due to the continued rising of gas prices and lack of public transportation:cry:

I know the subdivision is about sold out. My husband and I actually have a contract on one of the new homes out there (pending the sale of ours). We know several people out there and they love it!! We are looking forward to moving out there.
