Can anyone give me any advice about getting high speed internet service NOT through Embarq??? I am not too computer smart, so I don't know what is actually available, but I would LOVE to get rid of my landline and use an internet based phone service to save a little $$$, but not sure what my options are....Any help or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!!

I have Roadrunner from TWC, and it works fine for me. They have a package, internet, telephone & TV, if you want all three. I just have internet & TV, and use my cell phone all the time.

I have been very happy with RoadRunner, available from Time Warner cable (You do not have to get cable TV to get RoadRunner)

I think we used to have Earthlink through Sprint, then when it changed to Embarq, it all changed to Embarq....but DH usually is the computer person and my memory is not the best either....but I would love to stay DSL and not go the satellite route....thanks for your input!! AWESOME!

yeah, that's the problem...so I am thinking the TWC RR is the way to go---my contract is up with Embarq, so if people have been pretty happy with their RR service, and I can get it without having to order cable, that would be great!

You definitely do not have to have cable TV to get Roadrunner service.

Earthlink runs on RR. They tried to sell it to me once.

    911?

Does anyone know if you can get 911 service through your cell phone yet? One of my girls is diabetic, so I definitely want that option, even though I PRAY I never need it!

They must have been trying to rip me off! I just didn't want to pay more for their interface for the same service.

Yes, in Johnston County you can get 911 service. If you turn on phone tracking (a setting on many phones these days) they will be able to locate you without you having to tell them where you are.
