It was the Eastbound lanes right under the NC-42 bridge. We went west around 6:30 and when we came east around 9:45, it was closed. Troopers, ambulance, fire/rescue, etc... all there. They made everyone exit, cross 42 and then get back on 40. So, what was going on?
A rather large Tractior Trailer jumped the divider. When I went through it was about 9:05 and they still had not removed the truck, but they were about to. The road was re-opened at that time and the tow truck was standing by. The truck driver was traveling west bound , towards Raleigh and hot the guardrail in the center then hit is again coming out the other side. I don't think he actually came over into oncomming traffic but instead rode the guardrail on that side. I think he may have avoided the oncomming traffic. I saw a white truck there too but I could not tell exactly what happened. I'd put a few bucks down that the Semi ws cut off by someone. Hope all are ok.
From my understanding the semi was trying to avoid another vehicle that lost control. 40 had to be completely shut down in order to get the truck out.
As big as the response to the accident was, I was surprised when I didn't see it on the news this morning.
It happened in Johnston County...the news only reports JoCo stuff when it involves drugs, moonshine or a murder in a trailer park...
