Good for them, and it is obvious from the comments section that the folks did not realize they are not paying Resident Rates.

They can pay all they want in registration fees. They are illegal and should not enjoy the benefits of our society until they are legal.

sned them all the heck home and be done with it...no illegals....anywhere. end of story.

This is a disgrace that we coddle those who arebreaking the law and costing us millions. Go home to your own country or come here LEGALLY - like my, and most folks, ancestors did.

Here's something I was told a person who is was born in this country got a scholarship to college because one of their nationalities is PR. I was told this is the only reason they got it. I would like to know how this happens?

If PR is Porto Rico, remember it is a United States territory.

I just want to know how a person gets a free scholarship just because of nationality? It was given to this person just for that reason. At least that is what the mom said. Hey I'm Irish what does that get me? :jester:

Scholarships are set up for different reasons for different groups who are not part of the government at all. Some may be based on something like a name, but often are related to a group or vocation.

A list of scholarships for one school and the requirements for getting them. You will notice some unusual requirements if you look closely.

in state or out of state tuition doesn't really matter. these illegal immagrants are taking up seats in the classroom that should be given to an american citizen.

Do you know of any American citizen who has been denied admission to a Community College?

not denied admissions but not able to take classes because they were full and had to wait, sometimes another year to take the class.

Oh, I see. I thought they pretty much admit anybody who applies, I wasn't thinking about specific classes. That's a problem they need to address.

another problem that i have with the community colleges is the amount of financial aid they waste. If a student doesn't use all the financial aid they ahve been awarded each semester, the school will issue a check for the balance and give to the students instead of putting it back into the "pot" to give to someone else that needs it. i've seen students get checks for up to $2000.

    What an outrage!

The articles states: "The switch comes after U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials told state officials that federal laws don't prohibit illegal immigrants from attending college." AND
""Homeland Security does not consider admission of undocumented aliens to post-secondary educational institutions to be prohibited by federal law," Kelly wrote."
    What!?
My mouth dropped at the above statements so I goggled for the information and found the U.S. code http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/uscode08/usc_sec_08_00001253----000-.html
and I did not find anything that pertain to attending college, but I did find where it says that there are penalties and fines for being here illegally, and these are federal law!

The article ends with:"All of the illegal immigrants pay out-of-state tuition at both UNC and community college campuses." A person can be a citizen of a state, and not be a citizen of the United States of America. So, let’s say these illegals have lived in NC for the previous 12 months prior to enrollment then shouldn't they be eligible for in-state tuition?

So, the community colleges should allow illegals to enroll (they are for teaching), but the Federal Government should enforce the laws that ensures that illegals wouldn't enroll in the first place.:banghead:
