What are the top 5 most upscale restaurants in Raleigh? I need a good selection. And I'm not talking about nice. I'm talking superb. Tip your waiter 50 dollars type of place. Please exclude Angus Barn. Thank you! 8)

I've never been to second empire, but always heard it was awesome, almost went there 2 weeks ago for our anniversary, but couldn't find a sitter...

My favorite place in the area is 42nd street Oyster bar in Raleigh, but I don't know if that's as fancy as you were thinking...

We used to go to Second Empire for our company Christmas party every year and maybe it was because we were with a bigger group or something but the service kinda sucked and the food was not all that either. I'd go with somewhere else if you are lookin to impress someone! LOL

If you're looking for an upscale restaurant then look no further than Second Empire. The basement is casual, the upstairs is formal. Make your reservation well in advance.

These are the same owners as Fraziers. Both are fantastic. Vivace is more upscale, trendy, and happening. Fraziers is more quiet and romantic. It just depends what you're looking for.

I don't count theme restaurants as "upscale."

    Bonefish / Michael Deans

Bonefish - I know it is a chain, but it is certainly upscale as far as chains go. We ususually only get out to dinner once a month and we find ourselves going there every other month because it is always good. Good atmosphere, great service and awesome seafood - everytime. The bang-bang shrimp is the best appetizer ever.

Michael Deans - My favorite resturant for special occasions. It is a little pricey, but again you get it all, atmosphere, service and great food whether you like steak or seafood.

Some of the upscale places listed - you just don't get value for the money.

I think it may be the larger party... although that is really not an excuse. When I have been on a small scale things were great! I just like downstairs because it is darker and more inviting. Upstairs is kinda bright! LOL However, they both have a wonderful menu.

Again try JK's one day! I think you will love it!!! The food prices are about $20 to $35 a plate for the entree only and then with an appetizer, drink and dessert your total should be enough to tip $50 easily LOL! My DH and I love this place!
