has anyone ate at chops steakhouse in garner? someone recomened it to my husband and i just wanted to see if any of you could tell me more about it.
It has the price of Ruth's Chris, but the service and food is more like a Sizzler. I went for my last time about 2 months ago.
love that! Never been and probably never will. unless someone wants to take me, but even then I'd rather go to outback ooo oooo or lonestar
We went and had the most awful experience. We ordered prime rib and they tried to serve us a poor excuse for NY strip. It didn't even begin to resemble a prime rib. And they tried to tell me that is was! It was a Sunday and I was convinced that they were trying to get rid of their meat. And then they didn't even comp us for both dinners. I was so mad and ready to raise hell but my husband talked me down. Needless to say, I will never step foot in that place again.
DH took me for Mother's Day. The food was oaky, but I was still a bit disappointed. If you want to try it, go to Restauraunts.com and get a gift certificate - at least you won't be paying full price (I think you can get a $50 gift card for $25 or $30 at that site.)
We had a gift certificate and it was a good thing. We had a brand new waiter who had not a clue. Ordered my steak medium rare and it came out slightly well done. I told him he needed to have a discussion with the cook and explain that medium rare is red and slightly warm and not brown and fried!!!! Sent it back and it came back medium well!! All the experienced waiters were working a party in the back room. I wouldn't even consider going back. Way over priced for the food and service. It's a shame because it is absolutely the closest place to our home. Oh well!!
you must live near me:lol: have you been in the last 2 months? they changed management and they are working very hard to change the problems that plagued them before - i personally will give them another chance. The manager that took over recently is a really nice guy and is trying very hard to improve their image, their service, and the quality of the food. Haven't done it yet, but willing to give him a couple months to make the changes needed and then will try again.
I think the food is pretty good, but it is overpriced. I'll pay for a good meal, but the atmosphere in that place isn't worth the money. I hear the Sunday brunch is a good bargain, but I haven't been. I know they also have different specials during the week that are also a good bargain. I would probably recommend it.
Ok, well since I can walk there I MAY be willing to give them another chance, but only when someone gives the all clear because last time was BAD!!!
Love me some OUTBACK!!! But CHOPS, I went there about 2 months ago, and was very overprice for the prime rib I got.
I went for lunch a few weeks ago and it was very reasonably priced and really good! I have only been a few times for dinner but it was always good. I am sorry you had a bad exerience, maybe give the new management a chance.
I have said this before in a previous post. Everything in Chops is homemade. The fish dishes are the freshest you can get in the area, not frozen. The dry aging process is expensive. The price is good for what you are getting. I do not know what the problem was with the wait staff. But I know the manager of Chops, and he makes sure everything that comes out of the kitchen is the best quality. I have worked in the hospitality industry for 15 years and have never seen a kitchen cleaner then Chops. And no I do not work there. The lengths they take to insure homemade quality food is not an inexpensive one. The freshness of the food is incomparible for the area. I think all these things should be taken into consideration before judgement of the restaurant. The menu is set up to be fine dinning. I think the problem is the location. And maybe a bit of the atmoshpere. By location, I mean in the middle of, well, where nothing else is. It is not so much a neighborhood restaurant. More of a special occassion. I agree the prime rib is lacking. But everything else is more then good.
Homemade and fresh does not necessarily equal good food. I have always liked a good dry-aged steak, and I am more than willing to spend $40+ for a steak at Ruth's Chris. The steaks are excellent. The service seems to have ESP, because they show up at your table a split second before you even start thinking about it, and the atmosphere is that of a high-end steak house. Now Chops likes to think of themselves as a high-end steak house, especially when it comes to price, but I've had better steaks at Outback. I applaud them for attempting to dry-age the steaks themselves and I know that it’s an expensive process, but they have gotten something very wrong because the steaks are just average quality. Definitely not something I'm willing to pay $40 for. A couple dining at Chops will easily spend over $100 including the tip. For that kind of money I’d expect more than cheap dollar-store silverware. I expect a salad to have something other than tasteless iceberg lettuce. I expect butter to not come in a little plastic tub. And when I'm about to leave the wait staff a $50 tip I don't expect to have to chase them down every time I need a glass of water. The problem with Chops is not their location. The problem is that they are WAY over priced for what they deliver. I’d go there if they had more reasonable prices. I’d even go there and happily pay the current prices if they actually delivered a fine-dining experience. I try my best to support locally owned businesses, and I’m always willing to give a restaurant a second chance. But until there is some type of major change at Chops I will not be back.
:iagree: I'd rather they focus on delivering good food and service as opposed to touting the dry aged process. It doesn't really mean much if it's not bringing the people in. Chops has great potential in terms of location etc. but I've been living here for 3 years and still none of the management seems to have realized this. Lower the prices and worry about good tasting food, improve service and I'm pretty sure they will see a huge difference in their business. I know that I would be happy to go often in that case.
