Litter Box ??? Discourage clawing furniture ???

We adopted 2 kitties from JCAPL last month. They are now almost 4 months old. One spayed, one 2b spayed in 2 weeks.

My question is about the litter box. One of the kitties (Daisy, grey tabby) seems to no longer be covering her 'gifts' in the litter box. I only have one box. Is she trying to claim it as her own?

Should I get another box? My MIL read that each cat should have their own box, but at first I could not imagine because the kittens were so small. Now that they are growing, it seems she may be right.

    Thoughts?

We also need help on clawing furniture. I have 2 clawing posts and encourage them to claw there (like you do with a toddler...if the cats start clawing the furniture, I pick them up and take them to the post). I do keep their nails trimmed. DH wants them declawed, I do not.

Anyone have a book recommendation on cat's behavior? We love watching the Dog Whisperer, and I wonder if there's anything out there like that to help with a cat's behavior.

(Our cats are indoor cats, keeping their claws (trim them weekly).

I would have to say yes to getting another box ! I have a problem with my cat ( she's now 6) scratching the furniture and i have found that nothing stops this from happening , NOTHING . Good luck and i hope they don't ruin your furniture .

Mattie scratched my leather couch ONCE! Never again.

They can be trained just like dogs.

Get them something to scratch on, there's plenty of stuff at Pets Mart

Buy some repellent spray. They sell it at Petsmart. Safe for furniture, you spray some on in the spots they scratch/might scratch. Once they smell it, they will run off in the opposite direction.

    Problem solved. :)

I whopped her deaf *** is what I did.

She's NOT allowed on the furniture anyway unless it's the green couch that has a comforter on it (for DH not the cat).

I've always allowed her to come outside with me on my smoke breaks or if I'm on the phone etc... well Miss Mattie thought anytime the back door was opened she could just run out and jump into a chair - no sir re bob- not again, whooped her tail real good and now she sits by the back door until I give her the "signal" to come out. We have always used our version of sign language to communicate with Mattie, works for us.

I'd seriously try a post or something, water bottle, smack her tail her when you see her doing it etc...

I'm not saying beat the crap out of your cat, but she HAS to know that's not hers it's YOURS.

    Good Luck.

    Double sided tape

Get some double sided tape for whatever she's scratching. Kitties don't want their clean little paws on the sticky stuff. Once she's found her scratching post and it's non-stickiness you should be able to remove the tape from your furniture.
