about ten years ago that building was a "sweet tomatoes" yes thats right. then it turned to a mom n pop bring your own brown bag fish fry place then an upgrade then nothing now transformed to chops. Dag on it I would love for it to be a sweet tomatoes again!!!!im sure i missed a transition or 2 but all in all i still wish we had a sweet tomatoes closer than Cary. mho GAM
What the heck is this all about?!!! :? It opened in December 1993 as Michael's and as far as I can remember was run only by Mike Stancil ( he might have called it something else when he went away from the buffet) until he sold the building to Roger, who turned it into Chops. Instead of missing a couple of transitions, I think you added a couple! I don't know about the "sweet tomatoes" but it sounds like someones been into the "wacky mushrooms"!!! I mean, come on!!... Isn't this right, or am just getting old and senile?!!! :?
wacky mushrooms  No, you're right! I was wondering if I needed to go to the head doctor or something (hush Koo!) because I could only remember it being Michael's before. Wait a minute, was it called Lighthouse something or another once upon a time...
Lighthouse was when he went away from buffet and went to menu service, went better with the drinks, I reckon.... But it was still Mike Stancil.
I do not ever remember there being a Sweet Tomatoes at this location. Maybe they sold tomatoes at a stand on that location before the building was built but never a Sweet Tomatoes chain restaurant.
Wow, I thought I was going crazy too. Definitely don't think it was ever a Sweet Tomatoes. As far as the dining experience at Chops goes, I so wanted to like that place. We gave them several chances but finally the last straw was the experience that included the server waiting until the rest of our food was delivered to let my husband know that they didn't have what he ordered. By the time they finally brought his reordered meal the rest of us were done and they brought him ice cold food. We didn't receive a couple of things that we ordered (but of course they were on the bill), and to cap things off, we had to hunt the server down in the bar where she was watching television in order to get drink refills. I think the pricing is an issue as well. I don't have a problem at all with paying for a quality meal, but unless things have changed drastically, the food just wasn't up to snuff for the price point. I have never tried the brunch experience, can't speak for that. Hopefully it is better.
Yes-the good old days-you couldn't buy a beer at the grocery store but you could go to the drive in window at the location and get all you wanted legally. i've always enjoyed telling that story. I even have a Lighthouse resturant tee shirt to go along with my ODS collection.
We ate at Chops again tonight and the food & service was great! FYI, Monday night Kids eat Free, and they have a great kids menu with about 8-9 choices. Hubby had a burger & I had seafood + 2 beers and we came in under $40 including tip which I think is pretty good. We spend that much at LaPiazza or Ruby Tuesdays. I also noticed they have a pasta special tomorrow night for $7.95, there were other specials for this week too but I dont remember, sorry!
I have never been there and always drive by there, only have noticed a couple of cars in the parking lot, so we never have dined there. I would not be surprised if they were closing based on the reviews I have read on this forum. Too bad it's a good location with all the construction going on in that area, a good reasonably priced restaurant would probably do very well at this location.
Fiancee and I tried Sagebrush Steakhouse in Dunn this past weekend and it was EXCELLENT!!! He got a giftcard at work so we gave it a shot. I had never heard of it but I have only lived here for a little over a year.
I saw the sign out front yesterday evening on the way home from the gym. It is for sale or lease. It lasted longer than I thought it would.
Yep i saw it on the way home yesterday, wasn't there in the am. i actually ran into a woman last night who has a wedding rehearsal dinner planned there for the 23rd and she knew nothing about them closing, hope they will honor those that have preplanned events but i don't know how they would do that.
