My son called and his car blew the head gasket. Is there anyone who has a running car for a few hundred dollars or know of one? I really appreciate any responses. I know this is not the place for this but I am desperate. I have to go to work but will check when I get home tonight.

Checked Craigslist? Almost forgot to ask, what kind of car does he have? It may be worth repairing. Just a thought.

Laugh if you must but all I know is it's blue and small. He blew the head gasket. I am going out there Wednesday to have it towed.

I promise not to laugh. I do glass work on cars and you'd be amazed as to how many people don't know what they're driving let alone someone else's car. Best of luck finding something. I'll keep an eye out if I see something during my travels around the area.

This may sound a little strange, but try some of the towing companies. Sometimes they tow cars that are never picked up by the owners and they will get titles and sell them.

The car is full of his stuff and he just wants it home right now, but after it is cleaned out he is going to call one of those places.

I am so sorry, it is too early in the morning for my mind to be working correctly. What I meant was if you need a car for a couple of hundred dollars you might be able to buy one from a towing company. I have known people who have done this.

Some garages will get a car that has been repaired and the owner was unable to pay so the garage gets the title and sells the car for the repair costs. I bought one like this for my younger son when he was going from high school to college.

    Hey!
Just a suggestion...do a google search for the make/model of the car and "head gasket". I did that for my car to see if I could have a friend repair it, and I found an attorney who had filed a couple of lawsuits against my particular mini-van about a fluid that was used that could blow up a head gasket.

Anyway, the attorney is supposed to call me back. From what I'm guessing, there are a couple of models out there that had this particular fluid installed and it could cause a blown up gasket. If thats the case, then the manufact. will repair the car at no charge. :)

    Good luck!

She's right. Apparently there was a class action law suit against GM for the intake manifold gasket problem the Pontiac Aztec's are known to have. We didn't know about it and unfortunately missed the deadline. We had it repaired at our own expense a few weeks ago, but unfortunately, I blew the engine coming back from PA last week. I am seriously upset about it, money down the drain. Not sure if it was the garage's fault or what, but now I am replacing the engine. NOT having it done at the same place, that I can assure you. We actually towed it to VA over the weekend. My BIL's mechanic is going to do it for about 1/3 of what everybody here was charging. Folks, we are paying out the wazoo down here.

You know I am a little slow today. I just realized that my BIL just gave my son his Jeep Cherokee and when we got it a mechanic at a well known auto repair chain told us it was the head gasket...well my FIL and my husband started looking at it and it only ended up being the water pump which we paid $35 for and my son and husband fixed it themselves.

I want to thank everyone for their help and ideas. My daughter has an extra car she is not using and is giving it to her brother. I am so proud of her and just have to say I have I have great kids.
