So I'm seriously considering getting my hair straightened in an effort to cut down on prep time in the morning. The salon that I go to uses the Chi Straightening System, but has anyone had any experience or know anyone who has had their hair straightened and what are the reviews?

OMG! If you do this, please let me know how it turns out! I've always considered doing this, but I'm afraid after spending all that money it won't work. How much were you quoted? I don't get my hair done often, but seems like I"ve heard around $100 - $200? I've just asked different people, I'm sure it depends on how long your hair is, mine is shoulder length. And I wonder how long it lasts, about 6 months or so? I don't need it to last forever, I just would like a change, curly hair is so hard to deal with all the time. I want to get bangs again, grew them out years ago but then I'd have to straighten them every morning, not that it's the end of the world, but with 3 kids getting ready for school, I like to keep my maintenance to a minimum!

Why not just buy a flat iron for $20 and do it youself?? My hair is past my shoulders and only takes me about 10 minutes to do in the mornings. That way if you don't like it, all you have to do is wash it and poof you are back to curls.

10 minutes??? I have a flat iron, and it takes me about 45 minutes to do! Maybe 30 minutes now that I got it cut, don't know, I haven't tried it yet.

I'm the same way, I've tried the straight iron (and an expensive one at that) and it just doesn't do it. I have thick hair and alot of it and it takes forever!!

Try Studio 312 I think it is cheaper that $100.00 there but I may be wrong.

I also have a flat iron and my hair is extremely curlyyyyyyy and thick . I have to get my hair thinned . It takes me about 30 mins but my hair is a little past the middle of my back . Its easy to do yourself and i know 30Min's really isn't cutting time but it will save a whole lotta money . :)

If I could do it for $100 and have it last 6 months, it would be worth it to me. I only get my hair cut probably twice a year anyway, and never get it styled because there's nothing you can do with curly hair!! So to me, I think I could splurge. I'd just like a change, and if I didn't like it, I just wouldn't do it again. My husband looooves it when I straighten my hair, and I do it only for special occasions because it takes so long, I don't have time for that in the mornings. So if anyone here is a stylist, or knows how much it costs for sure, and how long it lasts, let me know!

I wish my hair wasn't grey so I could straigten it.

A girlfriend of mine had hair down to almost her butt and she bought a straightening kit from Walmart and I did it for her. It took me about an hour and a half but it worked. Now the difference would be that she had a perm to make her hair curly, not sure if it would work that well on naturally curly hair.

Just a thought...I have always had straight hair and always wanted curly hair and everyone that I have come across that has curly hair has always wanted straight hair.

    You are so right!!! LOL!!!

My problem is that I have naturally wavy hair so I am somewhere inbetween and I am still not happy. All of those products that say it helps keep your hair curly don't work and I haven't bought a straightening iron because I haven't had time to do research on them to see if the more expensive ones are really better than the cheap $20 Conair ones. I do the best I can with a blow dryer and brush.

Funny story...I was born with big, natural curls. As I grew older, the curls disappeared. When I was in grade school, it was very straight, and as I got to pre-teen years it was wavy, I hated it. My grandmother (used to be a hairdresser years ago) bought me a cheap $7 perm kit when I was 13 and gave me a perm. My hair has been curly (and I mean CURLY) ever since! So I've had it all! And I can tell you, I miss the straight hair. Everyone tells me they love my curly hair (when I do it, which isn't very often these days), but it's just so hard to manage.

I have very curly/ wavy shoulder length hair and can dry mine straight with a fat round brush....takes about 11 minutes.

I have had mine straightened twice a year for many years. I love it. My hair is naturally salt and pepper and curly/wavy but not in a way that is manageable. Call Connie Nellis 919-333-8122, she is located in the shopping strip near Talecris and has worked on this mop for many years. I also buy Kolestrol from Sally's Beauty which does a deep conditioning on my hair. I use that about once every other month to keep the shine and some oil in my hair. That stuff is good for swimmers whose hair gets fried, as well.

    Good luck,
    Sherry

Sherry - would you mind sharing with us how much it is, or a ballpark figure?

i have thick wavy hair and I've tried the cheap $20 ones from Wal Mart. They don't work for me. I go to Sally's and usually spend between $50 and $60.

I got my hair straightened when I was younger. It worked well.

I've had relaxers and straighteners, the former being a little too strong, so I went to the latter. My hair is so coarse and wavy that it doesn't make it stick straight, just smoother and more manageable.

I don't know a lot about the thermal straightening, but I know a couple of people who were very happy with the results.

I did see this recently, and thought it was interesting...
