Does anyone here know if they are planning on putting a stoplight in front of the shopping center anytime soon? Once again last night 6:00pm-ish I was almost hit by someone trying to turn left out of the parking lot!! This place REALLY needs a stoplight. How many accidents has there been in the past 5 years? I know I personally have seen at least 4 or 5 and I am sure there have been many more than that that I haven't seen. Is there anything the average person can do to help the process along?
I don't have an answer, but I agree with you! That place is awful to try to get out of. Part of the problem that I've seen, is that people don't realize the speed limit is 35 through there! I've had many people right on my bumper wanting to go faster. Also going toward the school, right on the bend, it USED to be 55 mph and now it's 45! I wish people would pay attention to the speed limit signs and get off my tail!
I once wrote a letter to the DOT regarding something similiar. I just requested that a study be done in the area and listed some of the incidents I had seen and not only that but potential problems that could come from not having a stop light at an intersection. In my letter, I thought that they might pay more attention if I mentioned safety for school buses in the area. I am not familiar with that area b/c I never have to go out that way, but I would think that you could write a similar letter requesting a study be done for a possible stop light.
Even at lunch time it can be a problem coming out of Big Steve's and heading back to I-40. I would think it would be near impossible and very dangerous to have to come out of that shopping center and make a left turn during morning and late afternoon traffic. I wiould contact Cookie Pope and ask for her assistance. She should know the powers to be to contact.
It usually takes a number of accidents and a fatality before they put up a light. What's crazy is the people coming from the direction of the intersection, try to do U Turns - they try to pull off the U and there isn't enough room, so they end up in the driveway of whatever that business is and just make a mess out of things. . .everyone goes to freaking fast. . .someone is going to get killed.. .then we'll get a light. . .sad but true.
yes they are thats why coats did the turn lane to hurry them up so that the state didnt have to do the work, dont know whats taking the state so long, now that they have started the bojangles im sure it wont be long
I would be willing to bet, eventually they just omit the left turn there, and force you to go down to the other entrance down by Advance Auto. If you think about it, if they put a light there in front of the taco bell/gas station, to turn left, only three cars would fit, before they got to the light at 40, so there would be another problem. Its too short of a distance....wouldn't work.
Exactly what I wa thinking - thats why that area is such a poor design, much like other high traffic areas around here...:? Really makes you wonder about those making these approvals/decisions - they need to think about the potential growth of the area!!
Did you see the they have traffic lights up in front of the Food Lion shopping center? They are not functional yet but it looks like it will be soon.
