I've always stayed at North Myrtle Beach and taken 40 and 17 to get there.

This year we are going further down to Myrtle Beach... what is the fastest route, in terms of time, and least likely to get stuck behind a slow driver?

    thanks.

We go mostly back roads and get there quicker....but I can't remember how. I know it by sight...sorry!

May I suggest taking I-95 down to exit 181 in SC. Take Hwy 38 East to where it merges with Hwy 501 that runs into Myrtle Beach by way of Conway. You'll go right by the new Hard Rock Park and come into the southern most part of town.

I like the 40 to 17 route better than 95 - usually less traffic. There was a bypass that goes from 17 to down to/past Hard Rock park area.

Wide open until Conway. There are stop lights in Conway but there are coming from North Myrtle into MB as well. It's nothing major, especially at this time of the year.

I-40 to I-140 Bypass north of Wilimington. Go to Hwy. 17 and take it to South Carolina. Instead of going through North Myrtle Beach, take SC Highway 9 a couple of miles west to Carolina Bays Parkway (SC Hwy. 31). Get off at the Robert Grissom Parkway. Turn left onto 48th Ave and go to Hwy. 17 Business (Kings Highway).

It'll make sense when viewed on a map. It shaves considerable time off the trip by eliminating the need to go through Wilmington and North Myrtle Beach, plus there's no 2-lane rural roads to worry about.

Personally, I think the 95 to 501 is the best route. I used to haul my camper to MB at least 2 or 3 times a summer. When we went 40 to 17, I always had to get gas in Shallotte area. When I started taking 95 to 501, I could make it to the campground without stopping for gas. Hwy 31 is accessible from 501. It is the best way to get from one end of MB to the other (ie North MB to south part).

I think this is the way we have gone the last couple of years and it doesn't seem to take as long as when you go through Wilmington.

    :iagree:

Timing is the biggest concern you should have with either route. You don't want to get there at the same time everyone else is trying.

Broadway at the Beach has several great clubs in one spot.

Been there several times, and this way has been timed the fastest for me. Mainly because there is no traffic on 74 and it's 70 mph, and no traffic on 410, or 701 until you get to town.

I usually take 701 from Four Oaks alllll the way down to conway and get on 501. Its more of a direct route and very country. I end up getting there quicker than using I-95 and its more scenic!

It's only 70mph once you get to Whiteville on Hwy 74. It varies from 55 on up 65 before there.

    Just saying, sorry.
