Don't forget that the CIA will have their super secret, stealth, illegally held prisoner transport plane there as well. Craig
Thank you! Thank you!!! My kids love to fly and love planes. They'll think they are on top of the world. With age restrictions, only 1 of mine won't be able to do the flying part. I'm sure we can distract him though. Sounds like wonderful fun. My husband will be thrilled--LOL. He used to fly those little planes. Thanks for posting this Cleo. Between this and the animal shelter event, my kids will be zonked. My older ones really want to volunteer w/ the ASPCA and really, really love learning about animals. Sooo, what better way to teach than to go visit the shelter. I will be setting strict, strict words on NO NEW PETS though. Seriously. Our beloved Aspen passed away last year after 15 years. We now have Bear who is 11yo (in Nov.) and currently covered in tumors. We know it won't be forever that he's with us but want it to be just him for however long. He's spoiled rotten anyhow and another dog in here would not help him any. So, maybe I'll blindfold the kids when we pass by all the animals--LOL. Again, thanks for the great activity. Glad we can tie it into learning. Not just w/ my homeschoolers but Westview is doing a lot of stuff about Communities and this is perfect! My 2nd and 3rd graders have projects. Thanks Cleo. stephanie--mom to 7
There is anothing like a good nukarrito with some spicy salsa to dip in once you peel off the melted plastic wrapper. Craig
Stephanie - what is this animal shelter event you're talking about? My oldest was supposed to be gone this Saturday, but he and hubby decided to stay home. He looooves animals, is it something going on this weekend? And my 3rd grader doesn't have any info on a project, is this something I should be warned about? And could someone explain more in detail what this thing at the airport is, do kids actually get to fly in a plane, or fly the r/c planes, bring their own r/c planes, etc? I clicked on the link, but couldn't see anything on it. Is this the first time they've done anything like this?
DMJ, I thought it was ALL 3rd graders doing the community project thing. Don't know for sure though. I know my 3rd grader and my 2nd grader are both doing something w/ it. My one son has to build a police station. (I told him to take a lego police station but just kidding). We'll figure out how to build that this weekend. Anyhow, my other son has to go around the community and take pictures of rural and suburban areas. Yeah, w/ the price of gas like we need to be riding around in a huge van snapping photos. Urghh. Hoping to not go far and already know of a few places to pull this project off. Then, they have to report aobut what they photographed and stuff. I got the sheet earlier this week. You may have lucked out--LOL. I'm not a real big project fan here. Older grades yes, younger grades...nooo. ONly b/c I think the parents end up doing most of the project. Anyhow, I'd ask or look on the teacher web pages. Here's the link on the airport thing: http://www.johnstonnc.com/mainpage.cfm?category_level_id=793&content_id=2900 Hope that comes out. If it doesn't, use the link Cleo gave you and then click on news and events on the left. YOu'll see that one there and the animal shelter thing there too. The airplane event does include a ride. I know this b/c two of my kids have a teacher who's husband is one of the ones that helped organize it andthink he flys as well. Sounds like fun and can't wait to go. We'll see you there I hope. I did the Young Eagles thing with Kiddo years ago - it was so cool! she loved it - I was terrified but then again I have never flown. It is really a lot of fun for the kids
See, we all have our vices. I usually take the wrapper off before nuking, and go for my stock supply of Taco Bell Fire Sauce.
This was great fun, but be prepared for a few hours of waiting. (Hard to do with small bro or sis in tow) My son was literally on cloud nine after they landed. The SPCA has 'classes' for all ages. There are preschool groups and then K-2nd , 3rd-5th and on up. Most are free or they ask for a $1 donation. I believe they meet once a month with a new topic. http://www.spcawake.org/site/PageServer?pagename=Humane_Education_Menu_of_Programs#Preschool
Quick question. Are they going to fly based soley on age? Reason I ask is I have a 9yo girl that has a probable form of dwarfism. Size of a 4yo or so. So, would she be allowed to fly do you think? Just wondering b/c don't want to get her hopes up. Thanks in advance. HOpe to see some of you there tomorrow. We'll be the exhausted parents looking like death runover--LOL. Sometimes taking them places is like herding cats. Still, can't wait to go!!! I think this will be a lot of fun. have a relaxing and fun-filled weekend everyone. Stephanie--mom to 7
