My kids have been bugging me for one of these things.... I kept thinking that they would go down in price eventually.... Boy was I wrong! These things are still hard to come by and ridiculously expensive, in my opinion... They have started to wear me down and I am considering trying to track one down as a group Christmas present for them... But, I would like to know from people who actually own one of these things if it is worth all the hype. What all do you have to purchase with it? Thanks!
I do and Yes. Your kids will love it and, more than likely, you will too. You don't have to purchase anything with it. Unlike most game systems, the Wii comes with an initail game which is pretty fun. For sanity's sake, though, I would suggest you buy a "Wii-mote" (the Wii controller) for each of your kids. They can share the one that comes with it, but having more makes for a little less argument. My favourite games right now are "Mario Kart Wii" and "We Love Golf", although the "Wii Sports" game pack that came with it kept me satisfied for months. One small mention should be made to make sure you buy age appropriate games. There are a few out there that are highly violent and/or sexual in nature.
I just bought one a couple of weeks ago and I love it! I had a hard time finding one, but this website is helpful. www.wiitracker.com It lists the stores that have it in and then you can type your zipcode to find them in your area. Walmart.com was listed as having some, so I clicked on it and then I put my zipcode in on the Walmart website. They had three in Smithfield and I got the last one 3 hours later! They sell very fast. Best Buy at White Oak had them in last weekend. You have to buy the system and another contoller. It comes with one controller and one nunchuck (sp.?). The other accessories depend on the game. For example, I bought a racing game and bought the steering wheels to go with it. The fishing game came with a rod. I don't think all games need an accessory. I really enjoy the Wii and plan on buying the Wii Fit as a workout later. Good luck!
Thanks for all the info... Yeah, my kids love the video games - sounds like this will help get them off of their bottoms this winter... As far as age appropriate games - they have the same ratings on the boxes as the X-box games, right?
Our wii is a great incentive to get homework done, and chores performed. We have several family games, including Wii sports, and the Wii Fit setup. Well worth the price.
Once again, you will too, if you give it a try. Personally I never could get into the video games as there was always, "Press the B button while holding the X and Y triggers..." The Wii is almost intuitive. There are still games out there, even for the Wii which is pure button pushine, but they just haven't caught on yet. Trust me, try Bolwling, Golf or Tennis and you'll be hooked. Yes they do. I only mention it because my friend's son had asked for "Grand Theft Auto", which I advised against (he's 12). So he chose a different game called "Saint's Row" which is much worse. It was labled "M" but she didn't pay attention.
I have to actually agree with Clif on this one...bowling and tennis are addictive! We bought ours in June after playing one time at a friends house and it's awesome! We love playing with our two oldest, who are 5 & 8, and in another year our youngest will probably want to join in too! It's great for the whole family, and I can't wait for Xmas when we can get some more games from Santa! I just know Mario Kart will be under the tree, and probably some others!
We love ours too. We havent had much time to play it lately but we downloaded the original Mario Bros and about went crosseyed we played it so much! We also got the Brain Game or something like that. It is fun for kids and adults to test yourself. My kindergartner loves to play it and it has matching, addition, and other educational games. There are several on craigslist for sale, that is where we got ours with extra games and controllers.
Clif, I think it is called Fishing Frenzy, but I will check after I get home. It is a little difficult to figure out how to cast at first and the instruction booklet is no help. You get to play in bass tournaments. It is really my boyfriend's game, and he seems to get into it. You might want to rent it first and see if you like it. We also have Mario Cart and I love it! I also really like Super Mario Bros Smash (fighting game) but is it not bloody or gruesome like some of those games can be. Tennis is also a favorite.
I have seen them for sale on Craigs List, but I am reluctant as so many of them seem to get flagged as scams... :-(
Anyone have any recommendations for games for 5 year olds? My son had a hard time figuring out how to do the bowling at first, took him a few tries. Now not only can he do it, but he's come close to beating me a few times! :boxing: He's actually good at electronics (for a kid his age) and think that will be what he ends up doing when he gets older. But he has a hard time catching on sometimes, and gets frustrated when his older brother gets games he can't play, so I want to make sure he gets games he can play too. He really wants to get a baseball game, anyone have one that is age appropriate? Other than the one that comes with it. I've seen a few. I don't know anything about the ratings, since this is the first video game system we've ever had. They're getting a DS for Xmas as well, so I guess I need to learn! Speaking of which, off topic a little, I heard with DS's, you can use Gameboy games in them, is this true? Or is this on older versions only? And I want to start shopping for Xmas soon, will they go on sale a lot cheaper closer to the holiday?
I'd like to hear others too. My 3 year old grand son likes Mario Kart, but we have to make sure he gets tracks where he can't fall off the edge. As you might figure, he generall goes around in circles, which is ok since the game will end when all but the last person crosses the finish line. Sometimes, though, his uncle will help him drive by holding his arms and steers while the baby pushes the "go" button. Oh, I forgot, I heard "Safari Rescue" (a "Go, Deigo, Go" game) is pretty good, but I haven't actually tried it myself.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UUVQZS?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=pricegrabber-vidgames-20&linkCode=asn Here is fishing Master for wii for $29...(and free shipping) (It was $21 when I started tying and the darn offer expired... sorry) I know someone said they still use their wii fit, do others? I am contemplating getting one....
Yup...I went to Bestbuy last weekend and they sold their last one 5 minutes before I came into the store. You can try Blockbuster Video, Walmart, Target or even at a video games store.
I love our Wii and the Wii fit. My kids seem to play their PS2 more than the Wii though. We need to get a good racing game and maybe that would change.
