Deer processing facility?

    Has anyone seen any deer processing places that is closer to 4042 area than Mclambs in Benson? I thought that there was a place on Garner, but it isn't there anymore. Just trying to find a place that I can get to after work without having to take off time from work to get there before closing time.

    Anybody that wants to do their own processing, I have a meat saw (band saw) for sale.

    Do you have a garage? Do it yourself and save the $$.

    We've processed our own for 10 years now. Mmmm.... I'd love to have a deer steak for dinner!

    Is it very time consuming? I've always taken it and let someone else do it. I haven't never tried to just do it my self. What type of special equipment would I need to buy?

    A sharp knife to skin it and a rope to hang it :lol: ..that's what my hubby uses.

    No seriously...depends on what you want to do with it. Other than the rope and the sharp knife hubby also has a meat grinder in order to make sausage or ground venison.

    We cure ours in the garage fridge for about a week.
    Rig up a pulley system to hoist up the deer. If you have a garage you can put an eyebolt in the wall and thread your rope throught that and around the deers neck. You might be able to google it. We've always just used a fillet knife to seperate the skin from the meat. It doesn't take that long to skin it the longest part is the packaging. Make SURE you wrap your meat up good OR buy one of thouse sealers. I got ours from Cabelas. Figure out first what you want to do with the meat. This year we are making jerky, steaks, ground meat and breakfast sausage. :cheers:

    Also, where are you hunting? :mrgreen: We are always looking for land to hunt on. We've got 5 places right now, but always are looking into the next year.

    One more thing... when you get that big buck and want to keep the rack, let me know and I'll tell you how to clean it and what NOT to do.

    McLamb's is the closest place I know of. Like others, I usually do my own. I have a small electric grinder and I get some beef fat from Food Lion to mix in with the burger.

    Thanks for the info. I will try to get me one of those from Cabelas for the next time I get one. I already have it skinned out so I need to get it somewhere this week. Sounds like that is the way that I will go next time because then I know how it was processed.
    I hunt out in Zebulon, but next year I will probably just hunt game lands because of saving money.

    It's really interesting to process it yourself AND you know exactly what went into your food. (I'm weird like that)

    Meat processing

    I use McLambs and they are the best processors I have ever used.I have been to several over the years and also have processed my own on a few occasions.There used to be a place out in Wendell that advertised processing deer meat and they might still be around if you hunt in Zebulon it would be convenient to find the one in Wendell.
