Hey Clif, a thought occured to me. Maybe you made the posting hoping one of us would see it and get all riled up.

I don't think of the schools as "Desperate Teachers" but I am not naive enough to believe this kind of thing does not happen as it does in other workplaces.

That is possible, but then one might have worded their posting better with "seperated" instead of "married".

True, but for some people, until it's signed, they're still married.

Who knows, it could be someone with an open marriage too...thats not unheard of!

Yes, and that is what the law says as we learned the other day. If open, wonder if the other is married? Mabe they could just trade?

No. I only wanted to know if there was some indication that the posting was indeed done by a teacher and not a disgruntled student.

Believe it or not, most of my questions that turn into rows start off as that simple. Either an innocent question or making the point that people shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Funny thing, that, whenever I point out that people shouldn't jump to conclusions one of the first things that happens is that someone jumps to the conclusion that I'm trying to start an argument. In reality, all I'm looking for is a comment along the lines of, "You got a point," or even, "Let me jump to a conclusion this one time, it's the only exercise I get."

Haha, I'm sure if they were to switch the glamour would wear off quickly!

Well, it seemed legit to me based on the postings we have seen by highschoolers on this site. But hey, you got a point Clif. ;) And sure, before you say it - maybe they perused other posts, and modeled theirs after those. You know, research for believability. Sure fooled me.

There were other posts on Craig's List that say, "Hey we've been flirting, but if you want to take it further send me your name and picture and guess who I am"?

Really, honestly, and truly I don't read much of Craig's List (except for recently to look for a house which I found), and have never looked in the personals. Apparently there is some high entertainment there, maybe I should check it out.

I only pop in occasionally myself - and I always scim the missed connections for local ones. I just think they are interesting/entertaining. Esp the ones with "You, five kids, a wedding ring at McD's. Me, no class. Let's hook up!"

Personally- I am offended by your title. You sound like all teachers are doing bad things. That was one person. Also- get a grip. Teachers are just as human as everyone else. If you know it happens in other workplaces- why do you think it would not happen at school. Now if they were planning a rendevous to meet during the school day when they should be working- that would be another thing. I get so tired of people acting like teachers have to be so perfect all the time even out side of school. We are humans and noone is perfect.

I happen try to conduct myself in a way that would never embarrass myself. I do not want to be mortified to see a parent walk into my classroom and think "oh no I was really ugly to that person at ______. " I try not to make big mistakes because the way this society is, we can't even mess up in a fit of frustration/ emotion and say something politically incorrect without everyone wanting to crucify us - Sherrif Bizzel case. Every day people say the wrong thing out of frustration and emotion, or make mistakes, but god forbid it be a teacher or law enforcement, or any other political figure-because you will be villified!

Well, I always liked his music, but I don't consider him perfect.

As a teacher, which you implied in your post, you should know that "no one" is two words never one.

A prime example of why I believe in teacher testing. If they don't know themselves, how can they teach our children?

Let's be honest though. These are not the "kind of people teaching our children" as the title says. No doubt there are some bad apples out there, but teachers don't go into the profession for money, or prestige, or to hook up with other teachers. They do it because they love kids.

bbfan, if you want to be offended, you will be. If you are not part of this group, why should it bother you? It did sound to me like this person was planning on cultivating the relationship at the school, and that would be enough for me. No, you all are not perfect but you better damn sure try when you are at that school and on the clock, around my children. Honest mistakes are one thing, plotting and planning an illicit or illegal activity are another and I would have no sympathy if one got caught and "villified".

I agree...and there is still a "moral turpitude" clause for teachers. I don't expect that teachers will do anything other than reflect the contemporary societal values in which they were raised. I do expect them to value and respect those of the society in which they work. For the young'uns, 'hooking up' may be an inconsequential thing. Advertising it so that us elder flatulents hear about is another.

To be honest, most of us that work in High School, the last person we'd be looking to hook up with is another teacher!! We can be boring and as self-absorbed as any one else!! The worse date I can have is with another teacher, because we compare students and administrations all the time.

Well, I have found that recently doing the above or even down right asking the question still doesn't work. Someone wants to argue. Maybe it's just me...as usual.

    It's me,
    Sherry
