Sorry, but please leave the white sheets at home. That would make things alot worse and give them plenty of ammunition to say this is a racist community being led by a racist sheriff. Bizzell is too good of a sheriff to screw him over like that.

I totally agree. Having the Klan show up would not help him, only hurt him. We all have the right to peaceful assembly, but please don't show up in the white outfit.

Awww. You would have the KKK to censor their right to expression? Or is it about appearance? Is is better to be a closet bigot than revealed for what one truly admires?

My initial thought about a Klansman in sheets showing up was that it falls in line with the right and responsibility to legally assemble to protest or express one's feelings.

Thought # 2 was that there's no way anyone would actually do it.

Thought #3, apparently this guy is proud of his association, and wants to publicly be acknowledged for it. And now, you don't want him to express his true feelings.

You've already made it plain that you really don't care what the N&O or other media outlets write or report. After all, they're the liberal media in your book, and nobody around here takes them seriously, after they savaged the sheriff. Why worry about what they report now?

I guess I know which side of the protest you'll be on. Maybe one of your loved ones will be killed by a drunk illegal and left for dead. How would you feel about that? What do you think started this whole mess. He's frustated that the our government won't protect our borders and our famalies to keep these law breakers from coming here. And yes they are law breakers as soon as they illegaly crossed our border.

Hey Junior member, try reading the volume of my posts and it should be no mystery as to where I stand.

By your question, I guess I'm supposed to feel better over the death of a family member because a citizen who chose to drink and drive killed them? Dude, put the crack pipe down. If you're going to post an argument, at least make it a cogent one.

This isn't about illegal or legal status. It's about a sheriff who is paid by my tax dollars and who apparently lacks the self control over his expression, painting law abiding citizens with a broad brush. It's about the perception of intolerance in this county, when we should be trying to attract business and industry, rather than cede it to another county because of the perception that their county is more tolerant.

This kind of behavior should not be tolerated in today civilized society. I support fair judgement for Sheriff Bizzell as well, but your radical behavior is not acceptable. Your appearance will hurt not help him. We are living in a modern 21st century and you still want to inject this kind of racist exhibition in our society? This sort of thinking has put us socially and economically decades behind from other parts of the country. It's sad that there's someone like you live around here.

They have the right to peaceful assembly as I stated and they can show up it they'd like to. I'm just asking that they not. The thought process is simple. We have a sheriff that is being accused of being a racist. The klan is widely considered a racist organization. Do the math.

Flaming Liberal Dude, you need to relocate to Wake or Orange county. Chapel Hill would be a great place for you. Everybody I talked to in this area moved here to get away from people like you.

Not gonna happen. Of course, you could always go to the ridges of West By God Virginny. Sounds like the holler is missing ya. Do you play the banjo?

Yep, looks like you fit in well with the White Sheet guy, but I am sure you will leave it home this time, bad for the press.

Before you get all sappy, also remember that I was the one who supported the Klansman's right to assemble peacably, and use his right of expression as guaranteed by the Constitution to wear what he wanted to wear in public at the protest.

Careful there. Here's a lib who supports the Klan's expression, as long as its lawful. Heck, I even support your right to spew forth your impressive logic. If I do attend the rally, I'll be easy to spot. I'm the guy that will be wearing my 82nd Division All America hat with my Obama pin attached.

I'll bet a dollar against a hole in a doughnut that this isn't that big a showing for either side of the issue tomorrow. With Bizzell being an elected official, I don't see much being accomplished. I read through the article again and it seems that what Bizzell said off the record was actually being taken for the record without him realizing it. The writer interjected items into the article that really didn't seem like quotes but just sideline musings. I would wonder if the writer was jotting this stuff down with a pen or using a recorder. My guess is if the sheriff would have realized that all his words were being taken down for the record, he would have stopped the interview. I since a wee tad of sensational journalism to pump up circulation.

To me, it was probably poor judgement to give the ride along interview, but I think the sheriff's record should stand for something in the county he has served for so long. If his past actions do not reflect any kind of prejudice toward hispanics or any other minorities, then this article should not be grounds for further protest. He gave a written apology, not like someone who would stand their ground on all issues. He wasn't going to lose his job the next day. He expressed regret with what can only be assumed as a demonstration of sincerity.

I think everyone should just let the whole thing cool and leave it up to any kind of independent investigation. If Bizzell is doing an appropriate job, its a non-issue until election time. Then the people of Johnston County can decide. Nobody from outside of Johnston should concern themselves unless there is just cause for advocacy and I don't think there will be any found.

There ya go again, Jester, invoking logic and common sense :)
How in the world will we be able to waste time and effort going round and round about this stuff?

Doh! Guess I'm just a killjoy. Maybe I should just quit thinking before I type and be more impulsive. Great, now I'm sitting here actually thinking about how to be impulsive. Truly sad.

You know, as a native Virginian, close to West Virginia for most of my life, I find that quite offensive. That's no different that people painting all folks from JC as racist. :? I'm quite proud that I am from the mountains, and no, the "banjos" don't play. Geez. Even if you are joking, it's not funny.

Hat, that is exactly the kind of mentality that is running this county into the ground. You may want business and industry, but I don't. I couldn't be happier if the entire county was woods and farmland. It IS about the legal status of Hispanics. Any group so complicit in the violation of our immigration laws and who contributes so much to the drunk driving problem doesn't deserve tolerance. People are fed up with this kind of tolerance. Please do us all a favor ...round up all your like-minded friends and move somewhere that has already been crapped on by your ideals.
