Who is going to the fair this year? (I am.) Does anyone think the economy & gas prices will cause lower than average attendance?

Going Monday, 10/20. It's hard to believe that the current state of the economy won't affect overall attendance. But then again, I have a 3 yr old grandson that I will be taking to his first NC State Fair. Damn the economy. Full speed ahead.:hurray:

We are going on the 20th too! Our daughter has a teachers workday that day so we plan to get out there EARLY like we do every year and leave some time after lunch.

Too expensive. Money is way too tight to go to an amusement thing w/ the kids. Plus, it's hard to take some of them in big crowds. So, we haven't gone. Hope those who go have a wonderful time. We've already cancelled any trips we've had planned. I know the economy situation is definitely affecting us but don't think it is affecting everyone the same. I do hope those that are able to go to the fair can go. Enjoy it and someone bring me a funnel cake--LOL! Love those things. Enjoy it. The weather is going to be perfect fair weather.

I won't be going because crowds like that make me have panic attacks. I used to go 4 to 6 times when I was a teenager. Can't do it now.

I don't understand the point of them opening the fair a day early if they aren't gonna open tomorrow until 3:00 pm.

Michelle - I can totally sympathize with your panic attacks in crowds. I was at City Limits a couple weeks ago, the first time there for me (and last time), and got stuck in the middle of the dance floor with 1000 other people and started to have one. I cannot be in extreme crowds either.

We are, however, going to the fair next Wed, I've never had a problem there as long as we go during the week. I went on the weekend once, the first year I lived here, and it was horrible. I think they broke an attendance record that Saturday and it was about 95 outside on top of it, after that I said only weekdays for me! We go every other year. The food the last year we went wasn't that great, we were disappointed, I hope it's better this time!

Yep of course I'm going, my parents have been vendors for 12 years or so..it wouldn't seem right for me not to take my DD to the fair. Plus I got to play my games lol.

We don't typically do the games, maybe 1 or 2. Gets expensive real quick. We order our tickets and ride tickets online beforehand, you save a lot of money that way. My middle son only has 2 things in life the he really enjoys, baseball and rides! So we love seeing him have a great time at the fair! And this year my grandma is coming down from NY, so she'll be going with us, and I might even be able to go on a ride or two with hubby...:hurray:

If you want to give us some real good hints as to where your parents will be set up, I for one would be happy to see about giving them some business. Or you can PM me. :)

I doubt we go this year. It's expensive, and I'm not overly fond of crowds. I can only handle it every couple of years. In fact, we've only been twice in 7 years.

We've gone every year since we moved to NC 14 years ago. We almost decided not to go this year since $ is tight now but our kids have been every year since their birth and they really look forward to it all year long. We will just eat before we go to save some bucks. Already bought the advance sale tickets. Guess we will go on the 24th.

Could actually cut down on the tailgating some. That would save you tons of money.

Same here, and combine this with the safety issues the rides had last year. No thanks!

I'm going the 20th..after I get off about 2:30. Figure that will give us plenty of time to see things.
