I got gas at BJ's yesterday for $3.00 and I saw that gas at the Clayton Walmart on 70 was $3.05. Then as I'm getting closer to home I pass the stations on 42 (Shell, and the ones across the street). They were at $3.41! How is that possible? They have always been higher by .10 or .12, but .41 and .36? That's rediculous! What reason or excuse can they possibly come up with to say this is not price gouging?
Everyone on that stretch of road is doing it, so does that count as gouging? It just doesn't seem right is all.
Not really. As long as there's significant differences within the same area they will just be the loser in terms of business. It's the same as Food Lion being .50 more than Lowe's foods on Milk. Gouging really only comes into play when there's a shortage of a product (demand exceeds supply).
On my way home last night, I heard the DJ on the radio say that there was a gas station in Raleigh for $2.69, which had been verified and found to be accurate. He said it was at Westgate and some other street (which I can't remember the name). I noticed yesterday along S. Saunders it was about $3.16. The BP at the corner of Highway 70 and Guy road was $3.16 (or $3.19) last night coming home. Sandhu's was sitting about $3.29. Amazing there is such a difference.
That makes sense. I wasn't looking at it that way. I just hate that the nearest decent prices are 15 miles away from me. I always make sure I fill up whenever I'm in the Clayton or Garner areas even if I'm not on empty.
Just came home from Raleigh and took the back way. Murphy's at the intersection of New Hope and New Bern was at $2.89.
Today, up and down New Bern Ave in Raleigh its $2.85 down at the Shell near 440, $2.93 & $2.94 up near the Walmart at the intersection of New Hope Rd.
I won't need gas in my car until later this week or even early next week, hopefully it will keep coming down!!! :boxing:
Yesterday, it was still 3.44 at Shell at 210/40 and I know it's probably high as hell at DR Wells and 40/42. Update anyone?
I don't know about how much DR Wells is charging but don't most gas stations right off an interstate charge higher prices? I.E. Highway Robbery
As of yesterday on the bp side it was $3.41 cross over the bridge and the hess by ruby tuesdays is $3.29. Don lees on Highway 50 was $3.19. I wish they would get with the $2 program.
