    Bump - :)

Although Hanna is threatening this weekend, looks like it may not be as bad as we first thought - and it should be outta here by afternoon. That being said - here's the place to be on Sat night:

Sept 6 at 6pm the West BPA is hosting a BBQ plate dinner and Bingo at the West cafeteria. Dinner starts at 6pm, plates are $7, includes BBQ, sides & drink. Bingo starts 7pm, there will also be face painting, a cake walk etc - something for the whole family!

All proceeds will benefit the fundraising for the Macy's trip. Please come out and support these hard working kids!! :hurray:

BBQ/Bingo has been canceled for tomorrow but, per Mr. Britt, it will be rescheduled for an upcoming weekend. One of us will update when we get the info.

Go away Hanna & stay away Ike!

I'm just wondering why the band can have as many fundraisers and selling events but every other sport or club is only allowed one per year. I think it is great the they are going to Macy's it is a once in a lifetime opportunity that many people will never experience however there are other sports and club within West Johnsont that could benefit from being able to hold as many fund raisers as the band. For instance, wouldn't it be nice if the school had a nice bus to transport sports players and equipment to their events ran than a run down bus that takes twice as long to get there. I mean the band has this nicely painted semi to travel their equipment around for them and yet the other sports and clubs get a crappy bus... I have donated many times to the band sure as their BBQ dinner and every year I buy 10 chick-fil-a calendars for stocking stuffers but I just think it is unfair to the rest of the students!!!!!

Thanks to a supportive community, the beautifully painted semi truck was a donation, as was the spectacular paint job that was done by the band parents.

The band travels to local competitions and events on the same buses as the sports teams and other groups in Johnston County....

....and every student at West Johnston is more than welcome to pick up an instrument and join the band, so fairness isn't really an issue.....they too can join in on the once in a lifetime opportunities that the band students, band parents, and of course, the entire band staff work so hard year round to achieve.

Ok, so you totally missed the boat. Here let me try this again, my question was, "Why does West Johnston Band get to have so many fund raiser while the other students only get one per year for their sport or club?

Let's see if I can just get an answer without all the attitude!

I thought that was what this board was about the community with questions, answers and concerns. Is it a requirement to be so snotty when replying to someone?

    Spaghetti Dinner on Halloween?

I have a family member that is a band member and will be making the trip to New York. I have been EXTREMELY supportive of the band, donating money - buying way too many calendars.....

But, having a spaghetti dinner on Halloween night does not sound like a money-maker to me. Hopefully, I am wrong. Maybe you could plan a dinner after Halloween? Just a thought! Cold weather seems to be settling in - how 'bout chili?

I was thinking the same thing about the Spaghetti Dinner...on Halloween.

There is a home football game that night and that was the reason for choosing that night, also - the BPA usually feeds the band kids anyway, so they decided to 'open it up' and possibly attract other folks that will be coming to the game. I will add the game info to my original post.

Since there is a home game on Friday night (Halloween) maybe that is why they planned the spaghetti dinner for then too. The dinner is from 5:00 - 7:30 so for people going to the game who want to eat (for just $5), it might be a good thing. I'm sure the band kids will appreciate it! :-D

I'll bet there are a lot of people out there with kids who are past the trick-or-treating age who would much rather be eating spaghetti before a high school football game than dealing with all the little ghosts and goblins. :)

Also - I just checked and this is the LAST home football game and since the team has been doing so well - it should be a large crowd!! :hurray:
