Colorado? My mother lives in Evergreen Colorado, and my DH and I have an opportunity to go out there, run a year round campground, rent free- utility free, just maintain campsite, and get paid also. Plus there is no wait list for my nursing degree there. But I am nervous. Anyone ever been to Colorado, or live there? Good Schools? Nice People? Never as nice as my fellow 4042ers I know8) Does this sound like a decent opp? or am I kidding myself???? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ya'll
Doesn't 'something-chic' live in CO? I can picture her avatar but draw a blank on the name. It sounds like a great opportunity anyway.
Yes, she does. http://www.4042.com/4042forums/member.php?u=6947 She has some contact information listed on her profile, maybe you could IM her, Frame. It does sound like a great opportunity.
I think I will give her a shout. Thanks ya'll. I was just wondering if I was jumping into something silly, because I have been in kind of a rut lately.
Evergreen is beautiful! I love it. I am from Colorado, lived there in NC for 12 years, but moved back to Colorado in 2003. I live in Leadville. Ask me all you want. We are extremely nice people. You'll find people here in Colorado, especially in the mountains, to be friendly, open and fun. Our winters really aren't that bad. Last year was a record year and Evergreen is 30 minutes from the city. In fact 25 minutes to my favorite mall. PM me and I'll help you out. Jefferson County schools are good, especially the ones in Evergreen. Don't go based on testing because they don't rate schools that way as much as NC does. They have great programs. Besides now you'll know someone. PM me and I'll give you all sorts of details. You are about 30 minutes from major ski areas as well. Sledding hills in Evergreen are wonderful. Mt Evans has a camp for 6th graders that is a week long outdoor camp through the school system. I could go on...but I'll bore the others. PM me.
wow...you sneaky coloradian you:lol: you crept up fast. I dont judge places by thier test scores. No worries there. It would be nice to know someone other than my mom:lol:
Oh Frame, you are so lucky! What a fabulous opportunity! Need any help?! LOL How I would love to move back to Colorado. I spent my high school, undergrad, and a couple extra years in Colorado (about 10 years total). I lived in both the mountains and the foothiils in Boulder. The physical landscape is incredible. It is truly amazing to wake up each day to a view of the Rockies. The people (especially those in the mountains) were wonderful and there was so much to do and see in Colorado and the surrounding states. Chik is right about the winters. They really are not as harsh as the more north western states. Don't get me wrong - it does get cold and you will need heavy coats, etc. You won't have to plug in your cars at night and shovel 20 feet of snow every week, though. The winter sports are so much fun from skiing to sledding to ice skating. We used to go summer skiing in the Rockies before the snow melted. Unfortunately the lifts weren't operating in June so we had to hoof it up after each run. It was great exercise. Although I don't know anyone in Evergreen, if it is anything like the other parts of Colorado I have lived in, you will love it! The schools in the mountains were fabulous, but it has been wayyyyyy too many years since I was a student and I have no idea what they are like now. Good luck and let us know what you decide. I am going to live vicariously through you! LOL
Well I did some research on the campground. It is a site called Sweetwater Ranch. In Texas Creek, CO From what I can tell, this is a VERY small town. I don't know about this. Everything is right on the highway, which is no biggie. It just looks like there is no work around there either. The premise is that we would be working at the campground, for rent and a small amount of money. Probably not enough to live on soley. Ugh. Don't know If it were in Evergreen or even Denver I would probably jump at it. This...not real sure
Take a look at the cost of living out there ... isnt there a cost of living calculator somewhere on line? You probably dont NEED a lot of extra money to live on if it's a small town. It sounds like it'd be some hard work, but some good times. I've always loved CO - grew up wanting to move there (from St.Louis), but went in the opposite direction. It's a beautiful state, and friendly/warm people.
I'll do some research for you. Texas Creek ...hmm. I bet it is close to Bailey which is a nice little town.
I just sent her a PM. Texas Creek is about an hour from Pueblo, 1.5 hours from Colorado Springs. BUT it is 30 miles from Salida, the school district I believe Texas Creek is bussed to. It is a great town. They call Salida the banana belt of Colorado. Sunshine is there about 300 days a year. They may get dustings of snow but not big storms that often. Averages 40 degree temps in winter. Which in the dry climate is wonderful. Cost of living not too bad. Can get a home with lots of land. Hope it helps her.
Talking DH into something like that is almost impossible. He looked at it and said Heck no! But not in such nice terms.
