Trick or Treat?

I live in that same neighborhood that Barney does. Our family and neighbors welcome one and all to trick or treat. While vehicles are a problem, I do think last year parents were more aware of the cost of a life.

Our HOA is not so shallow as to do something like stop people from having a good time, no matter who they are or where they live. We always run out of candy and then turn the lights off. As a matter of fact the decorations are as splendid during Halloween in our "hood" as most any other celebration. It is a sight to see. Come one, come all...drive safely and keep up with the kids!

    Happy Halloween,
    Sherry

So, if I said that I thought I saw a real old zombie/crypt keeper dude and was then told it was just a picture of McCain, that would be alright as well? :)

barney, the post that you quoted specifically states what if they do not live in a subdivision? So, how would they trick or treat in their neighborhod? I want my kids to get the whole Halloween experience, so we trick or treat some door to door and then we go to a celebration. The mall just doesn't seem like the traditional Halloween experience to me, personally. Some folks do it, but for me I like door to door on a cold October night - and when I did not live in a subdivision I found a nice, safe neighborhood to go to. We didn't mean to impose, sorry! ;) Ready's concerns sound much more reasonable that yours.

If we go to someone's neighborhood, that's what we do, park well out the way and walk. I had a blast at Riverwood Golf last year, heck, I even got offered an "adult beverage" by the friendliest folks! LOL. I live in between the two subdivisions, our kids all go to school together, so I know a lot of them and felt quite welcome although I am not "technically" part of Riverwood.

We're going to the West Johnston football game. It's the last home game and Senior night. FYI...It would be nice if some of us brought candy to give to the siblings (and other kids) that are there to support West and not out trick or treating.

Geez, you're a grouch. Is there such thing as "The Grinch That Stole Halloween."

JK - Sorry to say we won't be here tomorrow night, but please stop by to get candy out of our "basket" we'll have on the front porch. We're having a soccer team halloween party at one of the parents house .... should be fun going T-o-Ting with 23 kids :p

    KDC,

We have two houses that do the beer thing. I had forgotten about that. It's a hoot to see dads and moms rushing the little ones in those areas. It's like: Come on Johnny, let's start at so and so's house to trick or treat (the one with beer for adults) and Johnny says but why can't I start next door and get candy along the way?

    What a hoot!

I declined his very nice offer, LOL. But they do it up right over there, most of the houses are decorated, everyone out having fun, it's great. The Athletic Club side, is very nice too, but the streets are so narrow and crowded, I usually don't go up there. I live in between the two, and my son goes to Riverwood so to me, they are my neighborhood.

That's what Halloween is all about, fun! Yes, some of those streets are narrow but it is nice to know that children can still celebrate holidays, safely, in neighborhoods. I would be disappointed not to see the little ones. Mine was one of those who ran up to the door, as if the candy was going to go away before she arrived. Wide eyed, cute costumes and sweet smiles always get me when it comes to kids. We give out candy to older ones but I make sure to scare them, if I can.

You and yours are always welcome our way, if needed. I do like the Christmas season at Riverwood.

The best option for Halloween and kids to have fun that I've ever seen was when I lived in Maine. Rural, cold, and usually snow on the ground this time of year.

Around the second week in October the newspaper and posters in stores and gas stations would post a reminder for people who wanted to participate. You simply mailed, or stopped by the fire house and dropped off a donation (the average donation was $5) the ladies auxiliary would take the donations and buy all kinds of candy and treats, then decorate the firehouse. On the day of the celebration, kids dressed in their costumes and parents(some of them dressed too) went to the party which lasted about 2 hours, there was local entertainment along with apple bobbing and the usual halloween party fun. Kids left with bags of candy which was all wrapped, and safe.

It was great! No answering the door and keeping critters from dodging out the door, no worries about tainted treats, the cost was very reasonable and parents knew their kids weren't in danger from falls on dark or slippery porches or being struck by vehicles.

I live in Riverwood at the Athletic Club and we do not mind others coming in. The only thing that we do not like it all the cars that drive down the street and some have no regard to all the kids around. We only wish they would park their cars on the streets at the shops or daycare and walk. Last year it we had some that were going too fast down the streets. We also love Christmas at Riverwood.

I know!! Last year was my first Halloween here and we did not have a single one, I was so sad! I hope maybe this year to have at least one. I do think the long trek up the dark driveway scares them all away. *sniff sniff*

I turn on all my lights, have the place decorated up, but it's like we're all dressed up with no where to go, LOL.
