I understand that there were more votes cast in the 2004 Presidential Election when compared with the 2008 Presidential Election. If this is correct I am really surprised after all the publicity about new voter registrations for the 2008 Presidential Election. What happened?

What are the percentages you have? I have 55.3% for 2004 turn out (122 million voters) and 64.1% turn out for 2008 (148 million).

But I am not too sure of the 2008 number.

Here is a good link I just found:

I need a more accurate informant. LOL

A friend gave me some bad information at dinner the other night. He is a big Rush Limbaugh fan and if what he heard Rush say is correct it appears Rush got this one wrong. Sorry. I guess I should do some research before posting next time. In researching after your response WRAL referred me to the following link.

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/06/voter.turnout/

    Story Highlights
    - About 127 million votes cast, shattering 2004 record by at least 4.3 million votes
    - Turnout percentage about 61 percent, compared with 1960's 67 percent
    - Early voting tracker: 31.7 million voted early in at least 30 early voting states
    - North Carolina, Maine voters set record-breaking turnouts

From working the polls--- I can tell you that far more local (JOCO) folks voted in November that -ever- before.

It was wonderful to see so many first time voters... both young & old, now if they will only come back and vote each & every time.
