    Teacher should be disciplined.

Even at the high school level, students may feel pressured because they see things one way, and the teacher the other. It's not a fair equation, because the teacher holds the grade book hostage.

I can't imagine that a fifth grader has the in depth knowledge and capability to defend a stance, much less to have to defend it to not only the peer group but the teacher as well.

This teacher was wrong. Had she been so inclined to discuss it, she should at least have sent home a note beforehand offering an "opt out".

Liberals take note. This is how to spark domestic terrorism.

Not when they are trying to indoctrinate and if that doesn't work, ostricize children in the public schools.

displine is too light. in addition to telling a student her father might be deployed for years because the family supported John McCain for president did you hear the gutter language.
she should be terminated. nothing less should be acceptable in this situation. this video is being seen all over the world. do we want anyone to believe that our n.c. school system condones this type of behavior by our teachers?

The editing of the video was also called into question as the more in depth discussion was cut out.

Impossible. You can't have an in depth discussion with such an incompetent buffoon in charge of a classroom.

    Public edumacation at its best.

My roommates daughter came home from school last week and said her teacher said Obama kills babies!!!!
As far as I know she hasn't said anything to the school about it.

Yes, we saw a television interview with the teacher and the little girl. The parents understand that the video was clipped and the teacher has apologized for her comment on the occupation in Iraq. Sad all the way around that things like this happen.

IMO, teachers and teacher's aides need to ZIP IT about their personal views on politics while in the classroom. As far as their students are concerned teachers should come across as non-partisan. Here is another example of an educator setting a fine example for his classroom kids...

BTW, be sure to read the comments after watching the video. I especially enjoyed Anexio's comment... "See nothing ever changes with these racists. They won't give us jobs and they love to lock up my brothers in overcrowded jails. My friends, change is coming and I can tell you it's time for some affirmative action and reparations as payback."
