Happy Birthday Marines! USOs throughout the state are having celebrations for the Birthday! A bunch of Our Marines came home from Afghanistan! http://www.wral.com/news/state/story/3928105/
Happy birthday!!! I was in the USMC fdorm 1984 to 1988. My 1st Marine Corp ball was held in Huntsville, AL. Our comanding officer had me and another fellow Marine to go to his house to get his bulldog, named....are you ready?? Chesty.........LOLOL Anyway, we got to the house to pick up the dog. Our cammanding officer was already gone and left a note as to where the dog was. We go and get the dog and he darts off! We had spent 45 miutes trying to get him in the car. We were in our uniforms and all and had both fallen while trying to get him. We got him finally and showed up with him at about 2 minutes before a special ceremony was being done with him as the mascot. Our commanding officer was glaring at us cause we should have been there and hour before but was rather amused at what happened...LOLOLOLOL Just thought I'd share!!!!!
Child....thanks for the laugh..I can picture it..dress uniforms and an unwilling devildog named Chesty...Ya just can't stuff like this up..

Happy Birthday to the leathernecks. I found it faster to fly into combat rather than take a boat. Go Army! On a serious note, the Marines were some of the best and toughest soldiers I served with. Semper Fidelis
If you do the math they were started 11/10/1775. Almost a full 7 months older then the USA. Congrats Marines
Quick Marine story One of my room mates at an advanced Naval Intel School in 1981 was a tough, combat Marine staff sergeant who got his education from the Univ. of Viet Nam. He had some great stories. One was the time he and his buddies were out drinking in a bar when an Aussie soldier started making fun of the USMC. They "befriended" this young lad and bought him his drinks the rest of the night, and they even took him home when he passed out. HOWEVER, my room mate and his buddies took a slight detour to a local tattoo parlor. Upon waking up the next morning with the likely hangover, the Aussie would discover his entire chest covered with a huge USMC emblem as a reminder to not run your mouth to a bunch of US Marines. True story.
USO of NC at RDU sent out an email this evening letting everyone know just what an incredibly successful weekend we've had through all of the fantastic events happening across the area. In addition there was a side-note which seemed appropriate for this thread.... "Friday night's volunteers helped to feed and to bed down an unexpected group of 48 marines. This crowd was followed on Saturday morning by another group of 40+ marines who were headed to Camp Lejeune. Running short on supplies, these dedicated volunteers even made a quick run to the grocery! Our guests will often remark that the USO at RDU is the best in the country and it is, THANKS to EACH of YOU!"
