How many others have gotten a call from this number (801-736-4400)? There is a website I use to track numbers that I don't recognize. According to the people posting on the website, this is a scam. The caller, in Spanish, asks you to press "1". What the website doesn't say, though, is if you do, there is a good chance that the call is directed to another number which can charge your phone account, so you should do nothing but hang up.
OMG...they called me on the 10th on my cell. But I don't ever answer any calls from 800, 866, etc. I still have it on my phone that is why I recgonize your number.
But it's not a "toll free" number. It's a Utah area code. Not every area code that starts with "8" is a "toll free" number.
don't answer I got the call too. I never answer numbers I don't know. Checked it out on the internet and tracked it to: Ft. Douglas AAFES Mx BLDG 200 , Ft. Douglas Utah UT 84113 It appears to be attached to the commisary there I think. Could be someone hijacking the number to screw you out of a couple of bucks if you answer the phone. Once you press 1, you just agreed for them to bill your cell# for services not rendered. $10, $25, $100 ? Who knows! Probably only a couple of bucks that will repeat each month until you catch it. Its always a small amount so that you don't notice it. Remember, if you don't know the number, don't answer. If they don't leave a message, it must not have been important.
I keep getting calls from a Dunn 910# I tracked it as well and several other people had reported getting calls. I figured it was someone trying to sell something. If people spent half the time working a respectable job as they do trying to screw others out of their money they would probably be rich!
Oh my gosh, I completely forgot about this... DS had my cell phone yesterday and took this call (just looked and that # is on my recent calls list). He told me about it but I just thought it was either a wrong # or a telemarketer kind of call so I told him not to worry about it. Funny though, he said the woman was either speaking in Spanish or speaking with a very heavy Spanish accent (can't remember which now) and he couldn't understand her so he just said, "whatever" and hung up on her. He had my setting to where my calls were automatically answered whenever I/he flipped open the phone. I just changed that so that now we can screen calls and not answer those we don't want to accept.
I got one Monday night and hung up when they started speaking Spanish. They must have a lot of callers to have time to call so many people.
I don't think they are getting cell numbers. I think they have a "War Games Dialer", basically it starts at "919-550-0000", then dials "919-550-0001" then "919-550-0002" and so on. Of course, if you answer, then it's recorded as a valid phone number.
I've had that call a few times on my company cell. As soon as I hear that pre recorded Spanish speech, I hang up. Not to be ugly, but this is my country, speak to me in my language. Mike
