I have received information that members of the school board are attempting to extend the superintendent's contract and give him a raise before the newly elected board members come in tomorrow. This vote will be squeezed in even though it is not on the agenda. He now makes over $236,000 per year, but needs a raise? Has anyone else heard about this?

No! But that shouldn't be allowed to happen! What can we do to stop it? :boxing:

I received an email regarding this and the only two school board members listed to contact were Dorothy and Butler. Not sure why just those two. I called Tony's office and left a message and hope I get a return call.

I want to check out the email since it only had two board members' names on it I have a gut feeling we are going in circles, again.

What to do to hopefully stop this...

Here's part of an email I received...

I want to make you all aware of a situation happening with the school board. The board has their last meeting before the new board members come in today Wednesday, at 4pm. The board is trying to sneak in an issue that is not on the agenda. They are planning on voting to give Superintendent Parker a pay raise and extend his contract by several years. Right now he makes over $236,000. per year. If he is replaced in the future the taxpayers will have to pay even to more to fulfill his contract. Several members of the board are trying to sneak this in and it is underhanded and unethical. They need to know that the citizens of Johnston County do not agree with this. If you are concerned please contact the two board members that are spearheading this vote and let them know that you disagree. They need to know that we know what they are up to and that if they have other political aspirations we will remember this on voting day.

OK, this is just me being snide, but maybe we should also make him do additional duties like Teacher Assistants have to do...like drive a bus!!!!!

Wonder why only two school board members are listed to contact? Think the others just don't give a darn?

No, that means that these 2 are the ones pushing this through.

So, these two can make the decision? I'm asking because we have a group of people on the school board and I don't understand why all numbers are not called to ask and complain. If only two want it surely it will not pass.

    Thanks,
    Sherry

Sometimes these 2 (mentioned) can very persuasive - so maybe who sent the email is concerned that it will go thru - as other things have in the past when only Donna white and ? (can't remember his name!) are opposed.

It's possible they are listed because they will be in the next round of re-election races. Decisions of this magnitude will be remembered as re-election races begin to gear up.

Emailed Butler and Dorothy....and if Dorothy is employed by JoCo Schools, should she not recuse herself from voting on things for her boss?

I have sent my emails off.

Please keep in mind that our emails may not be read until after the vote. The meeting will begin at 4pm today. Phone calls are the best option.
