    ARTICLE

You need to check out the video (and have your kids watch too).

It seems the family was taking a picture of their kids overlooking a 150 foot cliff when 3 year-old Alaina Pitton decided to sit on the rail and slipped through.

Oh right, that was all the park's fault.

Yep - saw it on the news this morning. She's a very lucky girl!

I didn't read the article - but on the news they didn't say that at all. In fact said the parents weren't looking to sue or cause trouble, that they just wanted folks to be more aware of situations like that and to be careful next to cliffs and stuff with open railings.

Hopefully though, the park will add something to the fence to keep something like that from happening again.

Whatever happened to parents closely watching their children. Sure, the park can put something up. And, yes, another parent will set their child on TOP of the barrier for a cute pic, without thinking it through.

In the article the child's mother said she was upset with parks and that she had gotten angrier and angrier thinking about it. They could put up something more substantial but I don't know that I would have my 3 year old stand up in front of a 150 ft cliff with just 2 railings.

I would have had a heart attack!

The space between those rails is too wide, there needs to be a third bar installed so that children her size can't slip through the way she did. It looked like an accident to me, like she expected there to be a rail there for her to be able to lean on. We have to remember that she is only 3 and children her size can fit through very small spaces. If there is a rail there to protect people then it needs to be a rail that will protect people of ALL sizes. Just my [IMG]

This is a bit much to assume and my guess is people are going to dispute this with you so I'll leave it to them. That aside, this is my worst nightmare and I'd not let my son that close to the edge unless there was a concrete barrier 5 feet high (extreme I know, but this really freaks me out). Picture would be just as nice standing 5 feet in front of the rail.

well, she didnt fall down the cliff did she? i dont see what there is to dispute. and the guy rescuing her JUMPED over the rails and didnt even lose his balance. not looking for an argument; those are just my thoughts. i think she was further away from danger than what they think and make it out to be. not by much, but nonetheless further.

Where did your original post go?? Am I losing my mind I don't see it anymore. Anyway, the way you worded it earlier made it sound like you were stating a fact that she didn't have the mass etc. when it was simply your thoughts. I know it sounds silly, but sometimes you have to be clear around here because fact and opinion run together ALOT if not careful, but you'll figure it all out. Plus, you'd never believe what can spark a WWIII around here and a little thing like mass could do it (well perpetual motion actually - it's a long story) :) Welcome to the board.

Well yeah... just like that one that didn't have signs posted in spanish encouraging parents to hold on to their children. Ya know, cuz the cliff did not tip them off.
