what happened to Porter Farms? I rode by early this morning and the ice cream building and veggie stand were gone. There were a couple of men there so I though maybe they were going to build something bigger. Passed back by around 1:30 and EVERYTHING is gone... the big strawberry, the sign... everything. I also noticed that there are no strawberry plants in the fields like there normally are at this time of the year. Are they moving to a new location or have they closed up shop? Anyone know?
Web page is there, but the home page announced the April 2008 opening, so they have not been updating it. http://www.porterfarmsandnursery.com/ContactUs.html#directions
I thought I saw another Porter location this year at the corner of Ten-Ten Rd and Lake Wheeler Rd in Wake County, as far as other locations go...
I just noticed no strawberry plants, too. They hadn't taken the other stuff away, yet. They do have a place on 10-10 toward Apex. I passed it the other day and saw strawberry plants.
I rode by there today and it looks like they have moved the buildings across the street between the landscaping company and the pumpkin patch. I hope that they re-open there. I love their ice cream and strawberries.
Oh good, I was hoping they were just moving to some other (nearby) location. Oh, and, very funny Hugh.
saw this friday on my way home and got in a panic!!! i have used the strawberry to give directions to our house for years!! sure do hope they bring it back!!
I contacted Porter Farms through their web site and here is the response. I did not ask about the strawberry. lol : We are moving across the road. (Just 50 yards northeast on 42 - Across from biker bar). We hope the new location will give us more parking. Drive by and you will see the ice cream portion already in place – we will be adding the produce section, pouring new concrete and adding a bathroom in the next few weeks. We are excited about the improvements we are making and hope you will return in the spring. We love being a part of this community and hope to be in business for many, many years to come. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors – Thanks! Crissy Porter
Whew! Thanks for finding out for us!! It won't be quite as convenient for me, since I always turned in off of Mt. Pleasant Rd, but at least they aren't moving far away... or closing up for good. :hurray:
