Just getting the news Johnston County had a tornado last night, as well as somewhere up near Lucama. Two people unfortunately died, and someone is missing.

Did anyone hear or see it last night? Just wondering where it hit.

Well it kept me awake half the night. I thought I heard Kenly was the worst hit. At one point my entire bed was shaking.

Thoughts and prayers to those affected. The weather alert radio woke us up and we watched Greg Fishel for a couple hours last night. The thunder woke us up again later, shook the house like an earthquake.

The lightening and thunder was so bad here it set our house alarm off HG!!!!

Lovely thing to wake up too... house shaking and the alarm blaring .

Thoughts and prayers for all those devastated by these storms. :grouphug:

I think I heard that the missing person has now been accounted for. So sad about the 2 deaths. I think we are supposed to get more of the same weather this afternoon.

The lightning was so "steady", it woke me up and for a second I thought I had over slept and it was daylight.

i woke up at 2:15 and it just started. We had hail in four oaks about 3ish. i was getting nervous but i did not think it was all that bad until I heard about it this morning.
Peppercorns was the only dog that woke up- the other two slept through everything - along with everyone else in the house.
I might not have gotten up if Peppercorns hadn't started barking. Probably would have slepy through it too

We had no clue there was a tornado watch or any severe weather. A big clap of thunder shook the house and woke us and the dogs up. We were shocked when we turned on the news this morning and saw where the tornado hit. How awful. My thoughts and prayers go out to the people affected by this.

on the other hand, the tornado warning was issued a full 45 minutes before it hit kenly. lead time like that is a recent development due to advanced technology.

of course, in the middle of the night, it's more difficult to get the word out. more people need weather radios, imho. also, in the middle of the night last night, the fish was promoting a new service that wral does. you can sign up with them for a service that will ring your phone when your address is included in a tornado warning....

I signed up for Weathercall last week, and didn't get a call last night.

Typical, even Greg Fishel doesn't call when he says he will.

*Tornado watch till 8pm for Johnston County.

We bought a NOAA weather radio a few months ago. They are annoyingly loud when they alarm, but at least you'll know if there is imminently bad weather in your neck of the woods.

The problem I have is with the warnings that are a couple of counties over and the ever popular Wed. test warning.

The one we bought is programmable. You can program it to only alert to the counties you want it to and you can also program it to only sound off on specific alerts. It is the Midland WR-300. We have it programmed for tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings, but not for things like watches or tests or Amber alerts. A light will still show up to alert for the other ones, but the alarm does not go off. Ours is set for Johnston and Wake counties and went off last night with the tornado warning. I was able to turn the news on and see that it was not anywhere near us.

Thanks, I will check into that. I bought mine years ago and have not looked into any improvements.
