Sorry Tassy, I still stand by my earlier statements. Price of doing business. How many times have I took people out and wasted my gas showing property and they not end up buying a house? It's just part of it, not a pleasant part, but still part. And as of yet, we STILL don't know what really happened, so it's all supposition. At this point, I don't much care, truth be told. Not the first time we've heard of crabby waitresses and owner at this establishment.
I am probably going to jump around quite a bit because a lot happened.... She does leave a tip each time she goes there. We had horrible service Friday night. I do understand they were busy but you still have a job to do. DH and I ordered dinner when we got there. Tee arrived later and ordered a Coke. Dh and my drink had been empty for 10 minutes before getting a refill. Waitress (who we have had before many times) came and asked Tee if she would like a refill...she said yes. 20-25 minutes later still no refill. 2 more friends ended up coming in and sitting with us. They each ordered a beer. I had to go up to the waitress and bring our credit cards up to her to pay because she hadn't been back. I was so ready to leave because we weren't getting service. I don't make a spectable out of myself so I had just decided that it would be a long time before I return because service had been this way the last several time I had been there (and I always tip anyway although I feel tips are for service not an entitlement). ANyway, when the waitress walked by, Tee said could I have my refill? The waitress turned around (I guess to go get it) and Tee said thirty minutes ago. That was all she said. No, I wouldn't have said that and she has since said she probably shouldn't have but she was very frustrated. I was as well but I was just planning to leave (waiting for the 2 other friends to finish their beer). I saw the waitress go up to Eric and say something and look our way. Waitress still didn't bring back refill. Tee got up and took her cup to the bar and asked for a refill. (Is this when she was "chasing" the waitress down?) Eric called her over and told her if she continues to treat his waitress like crap she could leave (cussing at her the whole time). She was going to leave then but friends talked her into staying because they felt she had not done anything wrong. BTW same waitress told friends of theirs who had a gift certificate (not coupon) that she would use it on anything on the menu (she asked first to be sure). The friend said cool and ordered a round of drinks for the table and 2 sampler platters. After all arrived, the waitress told them she had found out they couldn't use the gift certificate on alcohol. Crazy. Anyway, Tee did NOT leave a tip when she left (she had her initial coke, one refill she went and got, another refill a different waitress brought her). When she went to leave, Eric stopped her and cussed her out for not leaving a tip (which I wouldn't have either at that point). Tee told him her service was horrible and he informed her they had customers who were ordering drinks to serve...which she told him she was driving therefore not drinking. Much more was exchanged but wayyy too long for me to type! When DH and I left, Eric was a jerk to us as well when we hadn't done anything. I did leave her a tip but not nearly what I usually do because my service was horrible. Our bill was 15.75 and I left $3. She truly didn't deserve that but I know what they make. I hate this happened because we have been loyal customers for yearsss. DH even had his birthday there last year. **Note...Only 2 of my friends were drinking 1 beer each. The other 3 of us were not drinking (at that table-another table had friends who were drinking). I truly believe that played a factor, although Eric knows DH don't usually drink when we go to McKinley's because DH doesn't drink at all and I only have a glass of wine there. We go to have dinner on weeknights and watch the band on weekends if DH isn't playing.
If you know what to expect, you won't be dissappointed. I'm not on the 70 side of Clayton very often for lunch, but have been impressed with the lunch wait staff. I haven't gone back during the evening (since our first 4042 gathering~years ago) except for *one drink* with a friend of mine and we were in limbo waiting for another plan.
I wouldn't have left a tip. And I would never go back. A waitress doesn't get to treat people like crap in anticipation of not getting tipped. I was a waitress/bartender for years, had to wait on the cheap people as well as the ones who tipped good. they both got service with a smile.
Thanks for finally posting your story. We heard what had happened when he was there, and that was what I relayed while we waited for you PG. I tried to scan a copy of a McK's gift certificate I had bought 1/2 price from Z-Spotlight.com, but it won't let me link it as a picture and not a scanned image (.tif format). It does say right on the certificate; "Certificate Stipulations: Limit one per table - no cash value- no change- cannot be combined with any other offers- may only be used toward food purchases, NOT ALCOHOL - Please tip on full bill amount before discount" http://www.zspotlight.com/greatdeals.asp?display=details&offer=465 If you buy a gift certificate at full price for the face value at McKinleys and not one of these discounted ones, it would have been good on an entire bill. DH has sales reps that buy him gift certs. from there all the time and we always are able to apply those to the full bill, including alcohol. I don't know what to say about the rest of the scenario except someone must have had their cornflakes peed in that morning. We never have any issues, poor service or problems up there, and IF we were to, we would take it directly to Eric.
SATISIFIED CUSTOMER I have tried to follow this thread...WOW...I am there every week during football season and several times during the off season. I will continue to go and enjoy the atmosphere and the wait staff. Never had any problems. Much better place to watch than BWW in Garner. I will go back.... Todd
I have always been their advocate. I hate it...I really do. I really enjoy going there. But I just can't give my money to that kind of person, ya know? I can't speak for the times she goes without us, but she has been there probably 20 times in the past year with us and has tipped everytime (even on just a coke). As for the gift certificate, I know if was given to her as a gift ($25) but I'm not sure if it was a print off one or not. I think the print offs are for $50, right? Again, not sure. I also was unsure why my hubby and I were given attitude from Eric on our way out when we didn't do anything. Oh well, won't happen again.
You can buy the z-spotlight ones for 1/2 price in $25 or $50 denominations. I keep a couple because there are nights when Howard makes nice dinner specials and between dh & I we'll have $25 in food.
This is the story most told about this bar, other than a couple of posters that jerk him off regularly. I can't believe they're still in business.
Excuse you. I don't jerk any business owner off for the privledge of spending my hard-earned money in their establishment. We are always treated well, we tip accordingly and we have a good time there, sorry that doesn't always work out for everyone. He must be doing something right to be going on 10 yrs in that location, and to be so busy during all the college sport game days and NFL Sundays, and Friday & Saturday nights when he's got live music with no cover charge. Plus the chef in the kitchen throws out some great dinner specials. So how long before Barmuda Triangle or DownTime are shutdown or change owners again??? Oh, and Flipsides nice, but it doesn't look like they are much longer for being around either.
If a resturant owner chased me out of a building after his waitress gave poor service he might just like I said before find himself wishing he hadn't. Folks pepper spray I tell you cures idiots twitch pppppppppeeeeeeeeeepppppppppppppeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr sprrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Good gosh...I posted to share an experience but didn't think it would lead to personal attacks. Goodness!
Well...you did manage to fit in every good reason to to go the place. Read like an ad to me. And it sounds like you are more than "just" a customer. You're REALLY going out of your way to defend a place for just being a customer. And you are hearing stories about things that are going on when you are not there? I don't hear about the drama at places I go to eat at when I'm not around.
Whatever.. its a place we enjoy going, we have alot of friends that go there, and are there several nights a week. I hate to say it, but over the course of 5 years maybe we are friendly with the staff and are prone to hear things because we know who's who and the usual way things go down.
I can tell you from first hand experience, if it's the crap they sell to "civilians" it ain't worth the time in pulling it out. If it's the same as what law enforcement carries then it can have some effects, but doesn't effect everyone the same way. Craig
