I offered to start one on this side in a discussion with another poster and before I did someone started one on the other side. Thus two threads, one on either side.

 

You are right, I cannot imagine how people can be that far out into left field and not be on the waiting list for the new mental hospital. :banghead: :beathorse:

We have laws in this country for a reason. You might not agree with them and that is fine...but they are still our laws. If you don't like them try and get them changed. All I ask is that you respect democracy. For example, the people of California have spoken on the issue, yet the homosexuals are trying everything they can to overturn the will of the people. That is not how a democratic society works.

The Constitution of the United States and our laws do not prohibit anyone from getting married. A man is allowed to marry any one woman who agrees to marry him (except relatives) no matter age (at least age of consent), race, nationality, etc. Likewise a woman is allowed to marry any one man who will have her. That is equal protection. All men and women have the same rights. Those who argue for homosexual marriage are in essence asking for "special" rights, not equal rights. If we allow people to marry someone of the same sex, why shouldn't we allow polygamists to marry multiple husbands/wives? Why should we not allow cousins/brothers/sisters/moms/sons/dads/daughters etc to marry each other? Why not allow adults to marry children? How about those that are into beastiality? Should we deny a man the right to marry his favorite sheep? That all sounds ridiculous and so does allowing a man to marry a man and a woman to marry a woman. If you like engaging in deviant sexual behavior, then by all means go ahead, but do not try and force society to accept and embrace your lifestyle. Homosexuality is a perversion and everyone knows it, even homosexuals...

Amen. I am sure there are so many homosexuals out there that love being beaten to death, shot, ostracized, harassed and kicked out of family and churches. That is why they "choose" to be homosexual.

 

I don't think so Big.....I had mentioned on the 'Random thoughts' thread that I would like to see this discussed without it turning into another political thread....the OP said he would start it....in all honesty, I don't think he saw your thread or he wouldn't have posted the same thought on both.

 

One small problem with your theory. We don't live in a democracy, we live in a representative republic. We are a nation of laws and we can create more laws, as long as those laws don't violate a citizens unalienable rights. For example, we could never vote in slavery because slavery is a violation of a person's right to freedom.

In the case of California, the voters passed the law, sure, but there is a question as to whether or not the law violates the rights of the people.

Remember: Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.

 

Without getting too "religious" I will explain it. Man tends to do what feels best, not what he knows in his heart is right. For example, why would any man ever cheat on his wife? He knows that if he is caught, it is going to cost him his marriage, his relationship with his kids, half of his assets, etc and that he will be "ostracized" by his friends and family, etc. Yet, many men do it. I would hypothesize that the motivation is that it "feels good". I think homosexuals fall into the same trap. They somehow let themselves get caught in the trap by experimenting with someone of the same sex and they keep doing it because it "feels good". Drug addicts, alcoholics, etc are also victims of "the trap". Once you are in, you can get out, but it isn't easy. Nobody chooses the "bad" things that are a result of their lifestyle.

Then it's a good thing we don't vote on whether or not any particular minority gets the same rights as everyone else.

 

I can see your reasoning but everyone I know that is homosexual says they knew it even as a very young child. I remember growing up and there was this preschooler who was gay-not just a little boy who occasionally wanted to play with Barbies or play dress up, he was gay. I come from an area way more rural than this one with plenty of big, burly rednecks and I doubt he wanted to made fun of all the time and have his father try to beat it out of him. I can't really put it in the same category as cheating, alcoholism, and drug addiction. I know we could go round and round with this, though.

 

I think a minority just got voted in for president. I am sure you were in line to vote for him Cliff. Also, minorities have more rights than I do has a white male. This subject is alot different. Everybody keeps relating to homosexuals being normal. They are not. They have something mentally wrong with them. If they were "NORMAL" they would be attracted to the opposite sex.

It's funny that Liberals (ie BobF) accuse me of being a conservative. Conservatives accuse me of being a liberal. Some people just can't see beyond their own little prejudices.

Sorry, but you are wrong about "inalienable" rights and the Constitution. Any and all rights may be legally terminated by the affirmative vote of 3/4 of the state legislatures creating a specific Amendment to the Constition. A state cannot violate the US Constitution now because it was extended to all of the lesser governments as well.

 

No, I have been married for over 31 years now. Of course there is the question of those who may protest too much having latent feelings they are trying to hide from others.

I do not care how you feel on this subject, as any vote would have to be to amend the Constitution to prevent this equality from occuring. :mrgreen:
