We have a flea epidemic here at my house ... the dogs and cat get treated regularly with Frontline Plus, but the fleas seem to just be laughing at it. I've never had this problem before! I've NEVER had a flea problem! Help??
Some people over at the dog park in lake wheeler have said their dogs have gotten fleas from that park. I haven't seen them yet on Laila. I think the flea problem is bad this year cause of all the rain we have had.
I'm having the same problem here as well, baths and frontline Plus and nothing is working. I have treated the outside and inside the best I can. I have parrots, so I can't bomb the house, cause I have no where to put the birds for a few days. The pugs are just torn up from them..I just started using Apple Cider Vinager (sp) in their water and I also use 50/50 water and ACV in a spray bottle I spray a towel and wipe them down with it twice a day. I have been doing it a week and I have seen a little bit of a change with it. The fleas don't like it. It doesn't kill them, but it makes the dog stop scratching so bad to where I can get the hot spot's to heal..I have never had a problem till I brough home the Chihuahua puppy back in August. Ever since then I have had a problem with them. Sheri
Go get some Capstar from your vet. It is a pill and will kill the fleas quickly. Then start over with the Frontline, but ask your vet how soon you can do it.
I'll see if Willow's stomach can handle garlic ... she has inflammatory bowel disease, but we'll try a small amount of garlic on her food, she eats 5 or 6 small (small for her) meals a day so spread out, it shouldnt affect her diet too much. The other dog and cat shouldnt have a problem with this addition. I'll also pick up some of that 20 mule borox stuff to treat the carpets and floors and furniture. I've been looking for a safe, unscented deoderizer anyway!
Hmm... first I've heard of this one - will have to find out more about it! I'll ask them about it - I'm headed there anyway later this morning. Thanks for the suggestion!
FYI The Frontline plus is not working for a whole lot of people now. Just like people have built up a tolerance for antibiotics and we've had to switch to different ones to get results I think the same is true of flea products. There are several new products on the market now. Comfortis reportedly had the best results in areas where Frontline Plus was once the med of choice. It is a prescription item so you must get it from your vet. I also believe it is only for dogs, not cats and it is an oral pill. GOOD LUCK--Rachael
Like someone posted yesterday, blue Dawn dishwashing liquid kills fleas on the animal itself. The cat in my avatar was covered in them when I got her :ack: and it worked like a charm, no chemicals. I don't have any experience with the house stuff though. Good luck!
Someone at the dog park had suggested putting a flea collar in to the vacuum cleaner to help kill the eggs. I remember years ago to put moth balls in to the vacuum bag to help kill them
I found the Borax at WalMart ... Zoo was right - bottom shelf, in the corner, of the fabric softeners ... 3 dollars for a box. I'm looking around the house now for something I can make a shaker can out of, to start spreading it on the carpet. The vet gave me the Capster pills. After I give them that, then they all get a bath, then in two days, can be frontlined again. Tomorrow may be bath day in our household.
