A.) I think they are cute B.) I really need to add some bat boxes to my yard. I am next to some wetlands and always have tons of misquitos in the summer time and bats love them
That picture sure highlights why they are called a flying fox. If it wasn't for the captions you would not know they were bats. P.S. We were never successful with our bat boxes.
Speaking of which... My daughter was on her way to work yesterday evening, and she had only been gone a few minutes when she came bursting into the house just sobbing. In her arms was a towel she kept in her car, and inside was a baby squirrel. It had run out in front of her car and she hit it. At first I thought it was dying...it wasn't moving, and was breathing very shallow. I put some guinea pig bedding in a box and put the heating pad under it, and put little squirrel in it. After about an hour, he began to move around. I did some research and found a lady in Cary named Joy, who (bless her heart), let us bring the squirrel to her at 8:30 at night. She is a rehabber. She checked him and said she felt no broken bones, but felt a soft spot on his head. She said she would give him a steriod injection and see if perhaps he just had a concussion. I don't know her last name, but I want to thank her so much for letting us bring this little baby to her to try to save him. My daughter was devastated about what happened, and it helped her heart to know that the baby was in good hands. We feel certain that if he could be saved, Joy could do it. So...Thank you Joy!!!!!!
Ours is still unoccupied after 5 years... Guess they may be attractive if there are no natural habitats nearby. The bats around here are still active and welcome.
[So...Thank you Joy!!!!!![/QUOTE] Poor girl! I feel her pain. The first animal I ever hit with my car was a squirrel and I cried for days. Even if the worst happens at least you all did your best. (by the way there was only 1 other in all my 31 years of driving)
