I can't believe that........... "Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say, Rudolph with your nose so bright, Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?" ............would cause such a stir! seriously
This song has been around for years and kids have been singing this for years and now someone wants to object to it??? What is this world coming to any more?
I do not remember where I had heard it but the concept of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer was a marketing ploy from som store to sell more goods during Christmas season.
What a crock of bull! Let kids be kids...they don't give a flip about if the song is religious or not, they just want to have fun!!!
I saw that on the news last night too. How/who would think that that song has anything to do with religion?
That is the biggest bunch of #$%^!!! Why does someone always have to start something like this??? Get a life!
In the article it is called a Christmas Show. In stating that, to me, it would mean that "any" Christmas song can be sung. Now, if it were called a Holiday Show I might, just might see where they were coming from. It is a time to Celebrate and sometimes adults just ruin the celebration. My opinion, Sherry
I wasn't going to post but stuff like this really gets my goat! The holiday we are celebrating is Christmas. So if the word Christmas is said or sung or recognized then, IMO, those who do not celebrate it need to get over it and not participate. When I was in school, we learned about the Jewish holiday of Haunakah (I know it is spelled wrong, I wasn't sure) and we learned a Hebrew dance and sang a song about the Dradle. Did our parents throw fits and get crazy? No, we learned about other celebrations and appreciated diversity and had fun doing it! But Christmas was still in there too. No one is trying to take any OTHER culture's holidays away and feeling offended by them and complaining about their possible "overtones". So the other cultures need to respect and deal with Christmas. It happens like any other holiday, even ones that are not well known like Christmas. Look at a calendar, atleast the big ones that are at offices and business that are for a desk. They got more holidays and feasts and holy days on there than can be counted. I don't see nor have I heard tale of Christmas celebraters trying to get rid of any of them or complaining that something is being forced down their throats. Those days may not be celebrated as boldly and openly as Christmas, but that is THEIR way of doing it. And I'm not just talking about Jewish holidays, I mean all culture's holidays. I used Jewish above as an example cause the others I know nothing about. Here is an example. At my 2nd job, instead of having Secret Santa, they are actually calling it "Secret Sunshine Friend". I was going to do it for fun but, IMO only now, I am allowing Christmas to be compromised. And Actually I could raise the issue that it is offensive to ME to take a Christmas out of a Christmas game. After all, it's not done any other time of the year except at Christmas that I know of. Besides, "Secret Sunshine Friend" sounds like a Spring or Summer thing. But I'm not raising any issues there because I have decided not to participate which is what people who do not believe or celebrate Christmas need to do if they do not agree. It just seems like anything having to do with Christmas is being forced to take a back seat to not offend anyone. Well, I got news for the "offended". Everyone will always be offended about something in their lives. No matter where you go or what you do SOMEONE or SOMETHING will offend you. It is up to you what to do with it. You can get all upset and idignant and waste all kinds of time and energy about something you more than likely cannot do anything about, decline your health with negativity and anger, OR, you can move on, find something else to focus on, appreciate diversity or ignore it. Christmas has been around for a long time and it is not going anywhere. Most people who celebrate Christmas are tolerable to other things and cultures, more are than aren't. The way the media reports cultures that are offended, you'd think that Christmas was tyrant trying to wipe out the world.
^ICAM^ I think we need a list of retailers that are still using "Christmas" in their advertising and shop there only.
Our kids do the Christmas around the World at school. They make a "passport" and learn about each culture and sing one Christmas song from each culture also. I don't know of any parents who have made a fuss about that. Some people are too extreme with religion. My opinion is, if you don't agree with it, then don't praticipate. You can choose to let the kids enjoy it or you can choose to sit your tail at home and be miserable.
R U kidding! That is about the STUPIDEST thing I've ever heard! 'Secret friend', maybe - but adding the 'sunshine' part - that just sounds so childish......:?
We did that one year at Cleveland. We did Isael and opted for Hannukah over Christmas. I friend of mine gave me a dredel and we made latkes. The teachers were very receptive. Now this year I have noticed, Christmas is everywhere in that school. Used to be, just a little tree off to the side, now there is a huge one front and center in the foyer. Now, if they would just let the kids celebrate Halloween, I would be more convinced of their tolerance.
mine did this too. heck, I remember doing it too. I can't figure out how all of us survived in grade school and growing up, surrounded by classmates and all their different religions and people of different backgrounds.....good heavens! people really need to get over themselves with all this "not using Christmas" stuff.
Boy, that brought back memories of my daughter's early education. I thought it was a great idea then and am glad they still do it. The kids learn bunches. While I am not an organized religious person I do think things are taken way too far at times. Thanks for the memories, Sherry
