Hey guys... I'm looking for some large print books. Anything in the realm of Sylvia Browne, Anne Rice, Anne McCaffrey, or fantasy/sci-fi. Even if you'll just let us borrow them, I'd be appreciative. My mom can't see well enough to read regular books anymore, which is devastating for her, as she loves to read. Currently, she's in a long-term rehab facility because she broke her ankle. So basically, with nothing to do, she's going crazy. Her birthday is tomorrow, and I just thought, if any of you had any large print books lying around that you'd sell real cheap, or let me borrow, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!
Have you checked the library? Most libraries have a selection of large print books. If Johnston doesn't, it would be worth the $25 a year to join the Wake system.
She actually lives in Wake Co, and I just called and asked her if she has a library card and she said yes. So....I'm going to try to go by there today or tomorrow and see what they have.
A thought, I have seen full and partial page size flat magnifing glasses that would allow her to read a wider range of books, including library books. I believe some can just be laid on the page while others must be held away. I am not sure of the operation of these but it gives an idea on what I have seen. http://www.amazon.com/Full-Page-Magnifier-2x-inches/dp/B00012K7UU http://www.maxiaids.com/store/prodList.asp?category=Page_Magnifiers&idCategory=184&idstore=1
Aw, I'm so sorry - hopefully she will be better soon! Do they have large print in the libraries? I know they have some books on tape, if that would help? Has she tried any types of magnifiyer aids?
I hadn't thought about that. It might be worth a try the next time I make an order from Amazon. The only qualm I have is that she has some coordination issues from a stroke, and I'm trying to make this as simple as possible for her. Good thought though....
Jenn, I don't have any now but next time I go to Guardian ANgel I will look! They have a HUGE selection of books!
Cleveland Library has 15,000 books/videos-25% the size of Clayton's library We need community input to determine what the community wants to read and then we need help getting everything shelved/displayed. Karen Stark has been shelving and organizing, but she is buried without more shelving. We have room for 130 more feet (possibly as much as 280') of 6' high shelves. Come and talk to me about what you see as the community's needs and ask to see the amount of books we really have. Think of how we can loan more out. Donate or build a bookshelf. If King's books weren't so horribly fat, we'd be able to display more from other authors. Got a pile of cookbooks in last week. Today, we received another 10 cookbooks, 80 on parenting and childbirth, 40 on aging and family development, 10 business, 40 fiction, 120 nonfiction, and 60 mixed paperbacks. Seeing all these nice books arriving is intoxicating. You may borrow them for 2 weeks. It takes time to find them, haul them in, and even label them. We still have 400, which need their first ID label. In a short while, we will need to have cataloguing parties so we can offer you an Internet catalog. You will be able to wear your bunny slippers and search for your books. Our book sales are now restricted to our lobby and possibly outside in dry weather. By the way, people have started buying new books and giving them to us directly from the book stores in order to build sections that are inportant to them. Merry Christmas.
