I also thought they were all doing a good job. I know that a little change is good sometimes ... but this seems like a little too much.

Keep in mind Tony Parker has been adamant about not going to year-round schools, taking the parent's opinion on the matter into consideration. I hope the next one keeps us traditional.

    Cleo,

Although the ostensible reasoning behind year round schools was that kids would be able to retain the lessons they learned with more frequent, but less lengthy breaks as opposed to a long summer off, I have not seen data that consistently demonstrates this.

If the push behind year round schools is to expand the use of schools so more won't have to be built, then that needs to be discussed early and often, long before the elected representatives make a choice. One would hope that with all the controversy in Wake, that we'd be more inclined to reach a consensus.

I agree Hat, when they go year-round, I will move to another county unless I can make the trek to TNCS or homeschool.

Can't speak for any others, but my DW who is a senior teacher/mentor at her school will not stay if they go year round. And, given the need for quality teachers, not just warm bodies, this issue must be considered, as well.

When you figure what he would draw as a retiree from North Carolina, then add the new salary in South Carolina, he would probably be making significantly more money, if he gets the position.

A lot of factors to consider. The benefits may cover a lot of the difference as would a lower cost of living.

    Parker Named SC School Superintendent
Dr. Anthony Parker has been selected to lead the Berkeley County School District as superintendent, as soon as he is released from his current contract in Johnston County. The Berkeley County Board of Education, based in Moncks Corner, S.C., announced its decision to hire Dr. Parker Sunday afternoon, approving a three-year contract with an annual salary of about $195,000.
