of a place that repairs the Playstation 2 for a reasonable price? The one my son has is not working properly and we want to get it repaired in time for Christmas. What we did was buy him a new X-Box 360 for Christmas and we are passing the PS2 down to his younger brothers. We are planning on trading in his "teen" games for younger, educational games so that my two younger boys can enjoy a little gaming fun for awhile.

Maybe Game Stop or the place at White Oak near the theaters can help you.

Checked with them when I was there last week. They don't do repairs, unfortunately.

Hmmm, the one by the theater doesnt do repairs? They did my PSP not that long ago. Its not the gamestop up by the Dicks sporting goods, but go a little farther down the back road. (the name escapes me right now). They have another location where they took my PSP, repaired it, and I had it back in under a week. For cheaper than I could buy the parts myself and do it online.

I cant recommend them highly enough. They really rock!

Looked it up and I think its "Play n trade"

As I was sitting in line at the drive thru at Cookout I swear I saw a sign at one of the businesses in that strip mall behind it that said they repaired Playstations and X boxes. I am not sure which one but you could drive by and see if you see a sign.

Just got off the phone with them. They don't do repairs, either. They told me it would be cheaper to buy a used one for $60.00 than repair it so they stopped doing repairs.

Yup. That is the pawn shop. Again, it costs just as much to buy a used one than to repair it. I guess with all of the new game systems out there, the PS2 is obsolete and can get one pretty cheap.

I think all the PS2's had problems. Almost everyone I knew or know that has/had one, had the famous disc read error problem. They also would start making lots of noises, almost as if the disc was hitting something inside. I found a few tricks on the web that explained and showed how to clean and adjust the laser, but all seemed to be temporary fixes. I really wouldn't waste the money right now unless you know the person can guarantee the work!

My fiancee has a PS2 and his doesnt work half the time. There are only a couple of games that he has that will actually work in his unit but will work in other units.

Drop tha big $ & get a PS3? I heard most of the problems with the PS2 are with the newer "skinny" one. If u do buy used, get the older fat one, then add the network if u need it.

Well, while we're on the subject....

Anyone know anywhere that repairs Nintendo DS's?

DD dropped hers in the fish tank. After a few days of drying out, it works, but even after charging it all night, it won't stay on long. I asked GameStop and they had no suggestions. I asked them as well, if they could let me try a new battery in it (just to see) and they said no.

    Anyone? Buehler?

So, now I have heard it both ways. The game store said it was a problem with the older ones. At least they have a warranty on them over there. I was trying to find one on Craig's List but everyone was setting their prices too high and the lower ones were getting snatched up pretty quick.

OUCH! Well.....going back to my cell phone days, methinks that sucker is toast. For some reason electronics and water don't work well together!:)

Besides......what in the flip was she doing with it that close to the fishtank? Sink, pool, bathtub or glass of water, I can see....but FISHTANK?

    Funny you should ask.

She and my DH have this uncanny habit of placing their assorted stuff on top of the fish tank. I've told them both a hundred times to stop it. This time in particular, she didn't listen, and the remote control and her DS weighed down the lid and it fell in.

Sometimes I DO know what I'm talking about. Now, if I could just convince them of that.

The thing that sucks is that it's only a few months old. But I'm not dropping that kind of dough on another one. Sigh.... Lessons learned, right?

I'd just buy a used one and consider it expendable.

Fortuately, my PS2 has never had any problems. Unfortuately, since I just typed that previous sentence, it's probably a certain guarantee to go out on me for sure now. I've had mine for about 3 1/2 years. Of course, I don't use mine a lot and I've never used it to play DVD movies.

I'm definately not an expert on them, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night :p

The smaller ones dont have the cooling system that the original does is the way it was explained to me. Half the time at those used video game stores, whatever they have in stock is "the best one".

    OK...now THAT was funny!

True that. What you say makes sense, though. My guess is that his just needs a good cleaning. He did have the drawer get stuck in the open position once and he fixed it himself. Good? Bad? Don't know....
